What are you going to do next year?
What are you going to do next year?
This last burn was my first and I must say that it had a profound effect on my life. Truly life changing. I left the Playa changed, inspired, buzzing with energy and wonder, questioning my life, filled with hope and seeing things with new eyes............ I know that I am not a "Veteran Burner", or "Old Timer" by any stretch of the words, but I do find it very very disappointing and sad to see post after post complaining and trashing the Burning Man experience. With all of this focus on the negative, could it be possible that this is all contributing to a self fulfilling prophesy? Burning Man is a living thing, growing, changing evolving organism, and becomes what we all make it into. The Playa is a blank canvas every year, just waiting for a new work of art, new experience, a new "reality"............ So I pose this question to all:
What are you planning to contribute next year? Remember, participation and creation begins at home.

I am thinking about giant human sized hammster balls, or some thing interactive. Fun is the keyword I am looking for. Something for the kiddies to play with. Other than that you will just have to visit ye-olde playa next year to find out....
Seek not to follow in the footsteps of the wise but seek what they sought
I am working on a piece of art with a "rodent" theme as well! Interactive and hopefully with a message........... The biggest challange is to design something that is large enough, yet small enough so I can haul down and still have room for all my other "stuff". It's a 16 hour run straight through and last year my car and trailer were loaded to the max.

This is what I want to do:
-meet more people
-do something different and unique
-teach people skills
-make people smile
These are my goals for BM2005, if I choose to attend.
I have an idea that I think will address all of these goals. I would like to do an "ice cream social" where people will come and make their own ice cream. it it very importnant to me that they make it themselves and not just me handing out ice cream. To me tehre is a big difference. I know a relaly simple and easy way to make ice cream that works well on the playa (tested it this year with good results). It takes a group of 5-6 people about 20 minutes to make a batch, hence the "social" part--it's a time spent getting to know your fellow ice-cream makers. It's a simple thing, but i am quite enamoured of the beauty in simplicity.
It's quite likely that I will also be heavily involved with the Burning Bellies if I attend in 2005, and the 4th annual cafe invasion and dance to the man.

Find some goat cream or lactose free cow cream. I'm sure if you went to the proper dairy or maybe even health food store, you could get it.blyslv wrote:So much for "radical inclusiveness!" Do you have any ice cream for the lactose intolerant?!

Thanks for the way you launched this topic. I like your style.
I'm really waiting on the announcement of the BM theme. As a virgin to the last event, that worked pretty good for me and kindled a lot of creativity. The front car of my Mutant Vehicle needs a theme that is clearer from far away, I don't know what yet.
I guess that in a word my participation will be deeper next year. I will ask more people "Can I play too?" Less skimming and more of the deep involvement that I cherished.

I'm playing with all kinds of ideas on how to turn our parachute dome and camp into a piece of art......... maybe something interactive, or at least something that looks less like a big green parachute and more like something a lot more fun and imaginative!
Get out in the street and meet more people, interact more, try more things, give more of myself................. try to become more of the weave of the fabric than something just wrapped up in it!

My fantasy art project is to build another man. I would call him Joe, and hopefully he would be the same size and color as the burning man, but on a moveable platform so that I could mess with everyone's sense of center.
Perhaps he could have rockem-sockem-robot capability and go playfight with the other man.
Yeah, anyway that's my dream. Anybody got the funds and the materials to help?
Probably what I will do is scrap the big dome we usually build, scrap the big theme camp with the gourmet kitchen, show up with a tent and enough food and water for just me, and go out and interact more with others. My camp has been way too comfy the past four years.

That is also my fantasy art!! Ive fantasized about bringing a hay bale pyramid to throw down in the dark of night, with a stealth Man put atop it. Set it up on burn night, out past the other man, by the trash fence. Everyone will be gathered around the first one & few would notice the second being set up. Set it aflame at the same time as the other - or right afterwards.
-OR- stealth Man #2 out onto the ashes of the first, late at night after the burn. Everyone gets up the next morning, & the Man is back.
-OR- set up Man #2 wayyy out behind Sedna. Burn it on a random early weekday. Dont tell anyone beforehand, just light it up. When the weekenders come, you can say the Man already burned.
I realize the ORG will likely not allow for any of these scenarios. Major burns are totally controlled and would require advance notice to ensure fire & medics were near, a circular burn barrier would be patrolled, playa protection installed under the burn surface, etc etc - not to mention possible infringement of the icon of the Burning Man itself...
So to be done, someone would just have to show up & do it. How far could they get in the setup before a ranger showed up & asked what was going on? If successful, it could only happen once. Might it spark another level of control on the fest regarding freedom over how & when one presents their art?

We are bringing a new and improved Spike's to the playa with *hopefully* the addition and outside patio with a more inclusive dancefloor, plans to be open and serve bevview in the daytime as well as nightime and of course a much better sound system so I can DJ without being in constant fear of my system dying.
And I'm thinking I want to Ranger this year.
madness I tell you, madness

Living on Earth is expensive, but it does include a free trip around the sun every year.
proofreading would be a GOOD thing, meant to say:

Gerbil Camp
I have also been toying with the idea of human hamster balls and other human hamster parafanelia. I imagine 2 or 3 human hamster wheels that are actually electrical generators. If no one keeps the wheels spinning, then the lights and music at hamster camp will just shut off.
There is great potential to scale this idea much larger. One could even do hamster camp, with a human-hamster tube maze that snakes all over and above the camp. While pondering the specifics of this idea, it occurred to me how to add the perverse sexual overtone that I was looking for.
Not hamster camp, nor gerbil camp.......
but rather RICHARD GERE'S ASSHOLE
You garden variety parachute chill/dance dome can become "Richard Gere's Colon" with the snaking human hamster maze doubling as his intestinal tract. Basically, it will be a big facade of a man reposing on his side, with Richard Gere's head, and the entrance to the dome will be his butthole. I would even like to have a bouncer at the sphincter with a pair of nail clippers.
to declaw you before you enter.

Fall: vague imaginings about incredible theme camps and mind-staggering artistic productions
Winter: tepid attempts to attain critical mass on one or all of the above
Spring: varied and numerous oaths of allegiance to artists and camps that are building and creating...ultimately avoid all committments
Summer: last minute vortex of action to build shelter, get food, and have a minimum of respectability in terms of personal art
Burn...recover...repeat
