Hi all, so the big adventure for us is to come out to the 2014 burn. We have worked at and for lots of festivals and happenings here in the UK and would love to get involved with a group for the burn.
I am a site builder any thing from tents and toilets to stoves and stages.
My wife is more of a backroom type and loves doing the finace stuff!
Looking forward to the adventure!

Big welcome to Van and the Misses. I admire those who travel great lengths to attend. The time, expense and logistics are daunting. Spend some time on these boards. A lot of your questions will already be answered. Prep work for the burn is FUN. Welcome....

Hey ePlayans, just because this doesn't appear to be a post by a young hot hetero female doesn't mean we can't answer their questions. Eplaya is not an art car.
Hello future UK Burner. Burningman is a little different than other festivals. And if you make it so you may find it is a lot different in a good way.
Suggest you talk to people who have been to your festivals and Burningman both to compare. The weather, dust, geographic isolation and drive in/out is pretty miserable compared to civilized festivals. Few services: poopers, ice, coffee, emergency medical. That's it. Desolation, depravity, altitude effects, sleep deprivation, a slight danger.
Hey, you might like it!
Eplaya is searchable on flying in, finding a camp, your regional, first year, how not to be a punter, rather a participant. The burningman.com website has plenty of recommended info.
Welcome to the thunderdome, I mean eplaya...

sse--
I guess that I couldn't deal with the "finance stuff" so stayed silent.
van the man--burningman doesn't have sponsorships or the like. The event is funded only from ticket sales. So, depending on what you mean by "finance stuff" you don't have to worry. In fact, for many of us the idea that there is "no commerce" on the playa is one of the attractions of the burn. Back when I started going, it seemed standard that people would use painters tape or other creative solutions on the brand names of the trucks and rvs (caravans) so that the advertising on the side would disappear. Still goes on today, but there's less of it.
AS for building, well, there are lots of threads about monkey huts and other shade solutions. If you mean helping on a project, see if there's a local group of burners. Try looking up your local regional as a start. See if they are working on a project that you can help on. Perhaps a CORE project, but whatever you can get enthusiastic about.

Hi all, thanks for your replies and the beautiful assumption that we are young!
Yes we do understand that life at BM can be hard but without some discomfort you dont appreciate it when it stops!
Thanks Cryptofishist will check out the local regional to see if there are any other uk burners to hook up with

Re: UK first timers
The two people I've connected with most deeply in my years past are both from London - different years, they do not know one another. Katy and Simon are two individuals I say hello to almost daily now, though our face to face time was so brief. The magic of Burning Man leaves a long felt warmth. I connected them on Facebook and they plan to meet one another - and up with all us friends in 2014. Welcome - We will see you at home in less than 9 months and will appreciate your volunteerism, but hope you find a place to feel free and welcome in our city

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me
