On the playa drink front, here's another goodie. You've heard of the Arnold Palmer (iced tea and lemonade)... try a Tom Arnold. Lemonade and beer. I think for a while we just called it beermonade, but eventually a drunken running joke took hold.

Re: The Bar 2014 Edition
I don't think it's a warm climate thing, it's a population density thing. I remember it being a serious concern when I lived in NY, and a major ordeal for a couple friends who lived in Manhattan once. They had a couple immigrant families in their building get a bad outbreak. Not that immigrating is a bad thing, but in this case the families probably had twice as many people living in the space at they should have, and pretty soon bugs and pests and stuff become bigger problems. Hopefully the roommate and roommate's parents will pick up that tab...

I'm just sayin it was not banned due to us, but the environmental issues with birds, IIRC.
you may note WHO still recommends it for malaria prevention.

If heat treatment is recommended for bedbugs, how about renting a plaster dryer.

Re: The Bar 2014 Edition
one company suggested heat treating the entire condo, for 2K.
they take it to 140 deg. inside, and say they go in from time to time and move and flip mattresses and clothing and drawers, to get everything hot........I just gotta wonder how well that'd work for carpet and baseboards and such.
looks like the inspector is very confident they're in only one area of one room, and finds not evidence anywhere else. But can't get there until Monday..........so now how to keep them from moving in the mean time? dang this!
in reading constant vacuuming and such over time will prevent returns
and other stuff. But for now, dang it!!!

I have used a smoke generator to over lay fire smoke that had gotten inside of close areas walls crawl spaces.. Smoke will go everywhere even inside switches and outlets.. I would add a flavor to the smoke i applied for odor control.. Applying pesticides this way would be very dangerous.

Hot cocoa with Pumpkin Spice Kahlua.
Yggy, I'd suggest your daughter inspect and put her clothing, shoes, luggage, stuffed animals, anything soft, into tightly sealed garbage bags for now. Like condoms for all her stuff. Also, buy bedbug covers for her mattress and pillows. They aren't that expensive and are a good bit of prevention.

Re: The Bar 2014 Edition
When I worked detox intake.. We were getting a lot of hopeless wino's.. Most had been on the ground under a bridge.. You could see the dust on the collar crawling around.. I would get them undressed and into a tub for a scrub.. The cloths were put into a bag.. We had a pressurized can of insecticide with a long pipe.. Tied the pipe into the bag.. Nothing crawled after that..
My grandmother told me of an outbreak of bed bugs.. They burned the feather tic's and braided rugs...Washed everything in lye soup.. then replaced the tic's with rye straw.. Seems bugs don't like rye and cedar..

The constant vacuuming should work to control of the spread. My sister has had problems with bedbugs. Read somewhere that the like the glue used in corrugated cardboard boxes when they cannot get human blood. So may need to go through and discard those if you have them.
Now to rub a little salt in the wound ...
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . well not really. Just something I have seen, and there seems to be a few links to it. Just more reason to get rid of them if true. Apparently there is some historical evidence of a link between small pox and bedbugs. Google "bed bugs smallpox" and you will get several links.

I had never tasted Fireball till this year and everyone handed me some. In my coffee, with rum and that lost night this year in my cup with tequila. I haven't had any off-playa yet.

Re: The Bar 2014 Edition
I have read, Yggy, regarding surveillance for bedbugs, that specially-trained dogs have proven to be the most reliable bedbug finders.
So if the $600 a room exterminator is not using a dog to locate the bugs, I would call someone else. Failing that, a trap that gives off carbon dioxide would have to sit for a week before you know you have no bugs in a particular room. And of course you are attracting them through the walls with that bait.
Adult bedbugs can travel >100 ft and live for a year between meals, which is why they are so hard to get rid of.
And yeah HELL YEAH this is a bar, so shoot me one a them rocket-launched Guiness, if you would be so kind.
Fireball, yes, that is something that tastes like BRC.

Re: The Bar 2014 Edition
yeah MDF, all this research makes it seem even worse, they'll eat us, give us black plague, carry off small children.
I'm also seeing that if they are diligent in vacuuming, use some passive sorts of killer/repellent and such, they stay controlled and not an issue......I'm hoping for that!
I bought them one of them new fangled swirly no bag clear plastic bright colored jet vacuums......hahhaaa .
As with many things such, knowing how they work helps control.
I'm hoping they are not coming from next door........
Much of the place is tile floor, which will help, too.
hoping for the best, I guess..............
