Hey all, just wanted to say Hi, and that I am over here with my invisibility cloak on. I don't seem to feel like I have much to offer in the form of "chat", but I lurk. I live a fairly "solitary" life a lot over here, and really miss BM. I am comforted often by dropping in and reading a while....like I am among friends. Thank you all. You help more than you know.

Cooler here every morning (no surprise). Fired up the furnace for the first time. Pruned a tree late yesterday -- more cutting-up (there's a pun there) today.

Meanwhile, lots of technical nonsense is still afoot around here. Pandorra's new machine arrived as scheduled yesterday. Rather than take the easy road and just migrate the whole setup from her old machine, we wanted to do a fresh installation of the apps she uses, and then bring over all the work files manually. The automatic method is all well and good, but as we'd been looking through the old machine last weekend she realized there was stuff on there she hasn't used in a long, long time. So, a bit more work on the new machine setup, and a lot less clutter for her. I'm also doing a bunch of maintenance on our network storage. All hard disks will eventually fail, so we have backups plus I rotate drives within our system every couple years and retire stuff from time to time.

That project's been going pretty good. Looks like the two oldest drives are toast, but we didn't lose any data. And the girl's new machine is good to go (and man is it fast). I wanted to be able to plug her old iMac in as a 2nd display once I'm done transferring stuff and decommissioning it from active duty, but I don't have the right cable for it... d'oh!

Hello and welcome to ePlaya and the bar thread (a sort of chit-chat and banter place)...and happy halloween while I'm at it! Drinks all round!

Kairielise, to fill you in on the history of The Bar, it goes back to around 2006. In recent years we have burned it down once a year -- in a ritual with which you are about to become familiar. So we are building a new bar right now. It is located in a red barn, but we have not finished the interior yet. Here is what the old one looked like:




See the ladder in the left background? That went up to the hot tub on the roof. I wonder if the hot tub was rescued from the old Bar? I have not been up on the roof of this barn yet.

If you are any good at interior carpentry, have at it!

I do know that a good deal of the furniture and fixtures were rescued. Many of them are known by acronyms -- you will catch on.

Oh it goes back further than that - Tisha started the first one on this site in 2004, and there may have been some other version of it on the old message boards that started back in the 90's. It doesn't matter what your favorite beverage is, burners like to get their drink on and socialize
