(((Delle))) I miss you.

I am sitting in a hotel room somewhere west of Toronto, having chocolate milk & whiskey for supper, too tired to go eat. It's good Irish though and I have plenty. 8)

Good to catch up here with you all. Lots of love coming your way. 8)

OH!!! Waking up here, ha, I ate an apple! and it was a big help. And I remembered that meant to say it was GREAT talking on the phone with Patsh this morning 8) yay 8) and, sorry Delle but I think GI Joe & Barbie are still sitting on my furry flask, so... hmmm I hope they enjoy the whiskey responsibly. 8)

Anyone who has not driven the 401 Express across Toronto, YEE HAW I encourage you to try it. I have ridden a lot of roller coasters in my time but driving that 18 lane highway is AMAZING, especially at night. Rain was an added bonus. 8) Where is my whiskey???

Very happy to hear you got there safe and sound. It felt odd not to be able to relax until I'd gotten the "we've arrived" news. I'm weird that way.

I think we're going to have to wait a moment or two before I return the flask to you. They seem quite comfy there at the moment. I swear their eyes have been locked since the very beginning.

It was interesting having to explain them to two seperate people who visited today. I got both horrified looks and gafaws on both occasions.

To say we miss you both is a gross understatement. We're counting the days 'till we see you again!!!

LOVE TO YOU!!!

Hey the Bar! two individuals who've been on my mind lately and their reports of merriment, and safety, great news both.
tomorrow's Friday, and that's always good news for me. I've got toys to make. Finally vacuumed, and shampooed the carpet in my little car. Getting it clean makes me wonder if I'm getting ready to sell... usually I wait until later in the year to get it clean on the inside. I put the passenger seat back in too, and it seems like a different vehicle altogether.
It's a good night for tea. Started with regular black, now havng some nice jasmine pearl.

*wanders in, pours 3 fingers of Bushmills, in several glasses and distributes down the bar*

Hi gang! back from the Hof......brickwork done! chimney smoking, oven working better than ever! Even heated enchiladas in it !! yay!

It was so cool today: As I was about to climb the ladder to install the final anchoring mechanism to the chimney, a very large red tailed hawk almost soared into me! The Hof sits on a promontory, which creates very large updrafts, and birds often are very close as they glide in looking for "lift".........and this one was not noticing me (probably owing to my petite and demure stature).......I could hear the wind in his wings as he turned.......and nicely, didn't "fly away" but just looked at me and continued his climb, neat to watch that close, he seemed to be gaining 15 or so feet with each circle.

We also did the preliminary sanding of the floor (sand for grout) wow, what a difference! And so many folks helped at the party, it's really nice! I'll be leveling stones as I'm there now, with sand to put under to raise them.

*heads for ROS, swallowing a couple of ibuprofen*.......

Marty, you wouldn't believe the THERAPEUTIC benefits. When I finish sanding part of a piece, running my fingers over it to check for minor imperfections from sanding, and finding that part ready for staining or installation, the quiet satisfaction of it all has actually been noted to lower my diastolic and systolic blood pressures between 10 and 20 points. I had a 111/69 several times last week when I came in from the garage to cook dinner.

The only time I get on a ladder is to change a light bulb in the living room, and I have a stepladder for that - no difficulty there.

hi gang!

yeah Rhino, I know what you mean! I refinish some wood stuff, and marble and granite, as well.....finally running those sensitive hands all over the surface.....up, down, left, right,,,,,,,making swirls, noting the silky soft touch,of even the hardest stone, or coarsest wood, when it's finally succumbed to the hours of stroking and rubbing with finer and finer grits......the wet, slippery almost sensual feel of stone as the diamond polisher does it's work, or applying the oils to wood, the change in color, the lessening of friction as you slide hand to feel for any imperfections..........How they glow with the touch of the oils......

Like when you get your hands in the clay and it is so very sensual as it moves and forms to the shape you want. But yeah, Elliot, girls sure are better, often less predictable, but always better!

But I really do share what both Rhino an YG feel.

Good morning everyone! I'm just gonna sit here today and drink scotch and watch people.

I got my ass kicked at work yesterday by every little problem and so today, I'm not going to do anything. I'll worry about it Monday.

Cheers! :coffee:

ygmir, it even gets better.....

when the wood begins to glow with the touch of the oil, you get out the buffer with the soft top and glide it gently over each smooth surface..the wood begins to shine with an inner light that brightens as you buff. When the inner light is at its peak, you then add the final hardware to the piece, making sure each screw and dowel penetrates just the right spot at the right depth; polish any brass or chrome until it winks back at you, and then gently carry it to its new resting place at home where you admire each inch of your creation.

I always pull the curtains wide open at this point so that the sunlight hits the furniture, step back and be glad of the time I've invested to make everything just right.

Refinishing furniture can be such fun.

My only complaint is I go through about $50.00 in sandpaper to get everything just perfect. I know that diamond grits are a lot more expensive. Do you use cerium oxide for the final polish? I always did when I was preparing lapidary pieces so long ago.

My one love with rocks I collect is of polishing cabochons of semiprecious stones that you don't find everywhere - stuff like unakite and mozarkite (neither of these appears in most guides to semiprecious stones - unakite is a hydrothermally altered granite from the Unaka Mountains of Tennessee which has wonderful mossy green epidote in it, and mozarkite is n iron-rich pink chert from Lincoln County, Missouri.) Both make wonderful bookends, though you can't get slabs big enough for much else. And then there's always llanite from Texas. That granite has amethyst as its quartz component.

I too enjoy some of the "uncommon" stuff. We have some beautiful Mariposite here locally, ranging from grey, to grass green to lavender.

I found some realgar out at the Getchel mine, near Winnemucca.
I wish I had one, but no......but the "Red Ledge" mine near here makes crystalline gold, and is purported to have produced a gold-replacement (petrified) leaf.

Hey there Marty! Friday, indeed! and we're all still alive to celebrate!!

I've changed my Burning man email stuff to a gmail account, and now trying to get it to recognize/work. ATT for some reason declared the BM domain "blacklisted" and no telling how long that'll take to fix.

Yes, I feel we need to get word out to all ePlayans about the AT&T problem:
As mentioned on the "No notifications" thread... thanks to massive help from Trilo and Eric, I have corresponded directly with AT&T. AT&T has "blacklisted" the domain @burningman.com -- "Blocked for abuse", it says.

Mistakes happen, but here comes the bad part: Although they do have a way Trilo can "request" the blacklisting be corrected/rescinded, AT&T admitted that such a request would not necessarily be heeded. (Trilo has of course long since sent in such a request.)

I personally can only conclude that AT&T wants to get out of the e-mail business by deliberately losing customers.

I'm using my Microsoft Outlook e-mail address now, and notifications are arriving again.

Yes, good Saturday morning! After scoring all those free file cabinets Wednesday, I am now "rearranging the furniture" in both my house and the barn. Steel file cabinets in, disintegrating cardboard boxes out. :D

File cabinets are so versatile. You can make them into widow seats that have a hinged top, planter boxes and every manner of storage furniture. You'll have fun Elliott. (I love spray paint.)
