I think that the eplaya meet'n'greet is older than my participation on the board. (Post event, 2003). 3playans might know.

I had the good fortune of meeting and getting to know Morticia before the gates opened at the 2012 event. She's on the site as Tisha2, and started the first bar thread. I'm not really sure about many of the others, as I didn't really frequent the bar or make it to any of the meet n greets until after I came back in 2011. But I think I met ppl at my first burn that I'd met on ePlaya and tribe... some I've been friends with since, others have moved on from the event, and a few others have passed. Lots of good flashbacks.

On the robustness front, I'd say that things today are back at similar levels of snark as they were when I first joined back in early 2004. It might be a little harsher now, but I think that has more to do with the nature of the internet (it's a far meaner place than it was then), but similar. The board did have some wilderness years for sure, aggressive is putting it mildly - people were downright vicious at times.

Perhaps those with the skills and inclination might want to work on making a NEB to bring to the playa next year? It could also make appearances at regionals, amtrakathons, hof parties, and other bar-tastic meetups. How cool would that be to get a Gerlach webcam pic in January of a bunch of bar regulars huddling under an NEB?

Oops, I got sidetracked with flashbacks and forgot to share today's project. I got up bright and early to get started on making a brisket. Talking to Pandorra the other day, I was surprised and shocked to learn that she's never had bbq beef brisket. NY style and corned beef brisket, sure, but she'd never had the really good stuff. I've lived in places like Kansas and Texas, it seemed like a crime that she hasn't yet gotten to experience a really good brisket. There are a few excellent barbecue places in town, but (to me) to get really good brisket you've got to do it yourself. I got a great cut of meat from my new favorite meat joint, gathered up my spices this morning, and got to work. The meat looks a bit bluish in the first pic, but I think that's a combination of the angle of the morning light and the plastic it's wrapped in..

Used the dry ingredients and made a rub in the mortar and pestle, gave my meat a good rubbing  and use the rest to make a good stock for it to cook in. Then put it into the oven for a painstakingly slow 12 hour cook. The loft smells great, my mouth's been watering all day. :D

Ok. I'm now taking suggestions. What materials, size, style, decorations, etc...How do you picture using the NEB? On a couch, floor open playa? Lightweight or fleece? I'm up for it if you guys really want it AND if you can give me some clues.

I'm on my way out the door so I'll check back later.

At the time, it was a bunch of different things, including, I think, some of Scott's old EMT shirts.
I can imagine you finding all sorts of fabulous items for inclusion, Ratty. I'm going to say lightweight, because heavy stuff will end up hitting some sort of storage limitation sooner.

Hey, it's GH!! good to seeya Pal!

it'd be interesting to know what has become of some of the first "eplayans"........others not so much.
But things here were "robust" when I joined, and in reading some of the old stuff at that time, down right wild! More edgy, for sure, some might say "aggressive", but there was an undercurrent that all were friends on some level.

I barely recall the old eplaya, had trouble navigating it. Didn't have the chance to get the hang of it before this incarnation. Things still change, but the facelifts are more skillfully executed and less visible.

I am hoping for a good week for everyone. 8)

My idea for the NEB IRL is to sew buttons along the sides of crocheted afghans; the crochet makes its own buttonholes so we can button on more afghans ad libitum.

But I also like Ratty's idea of making a NEB; if we all signed it at the M&G, that would make a lovely gift for whoever gets roped in to organizing the pot luck & security.*

*Not me! I have had a turn, thanks, that's enough for one lifetime.
