Elliot, no worries, you are sufficiently eccentric to be considered both eccentric and endearing. MDF, as usual, sounds like you have the right handle on things.

Awwww... but I don't want to be "sufficiently" anything. I want to be "spectacularly" whatever-it-is!

I spent my weekend (Tues & Wed) working on computers. Re-installed my OS (Linux Mint). just needed to change the repository but since there was an upgrade, I reinstalled. My daughters freind sent her computer to be fixed(again). She keeps getting viruses. This time she uninstalled the antivirus and got something really good. So my daughter wiped the drive and tried to run the restore disks. They turned out to be duds so we have installed linux on it. It is working but I am going to install a version that is easier for her to use. I already told her that if she wants windoze on it she will have to purchase the recovery disks from HP. At least with Linux she won't be getting any new viruses o it. :D

Major wind here last night; still blowing. All kinds of Stuff blown down and "relocated". Otherwise all well. Going back out in the barn now -- running proper wiring for lights in attic.

Hi BB, Elliot, and all the ships at sea............

yeah wow, what wind!! I'm told 90 mph gusts over the summit, so, I'm heading for the Hof tomorrow, to see how my chimney held up. The canyon the Hof hangs out in, come down from 7k' ft. el. or so, so, I get at least the winds there if not a little faster.
Wish me luck!!

and, I found out something about cheap wire wheels on a grinder.
I was refurbishing a wood stove for a friend, so was wire wheeling some areas before welding.
I kept feeling stuff hitting me, and stinging pretty good, but as with so many things I do, stuff hurts but don't stop what you're doing until done. And anyway, what could go wrong? I was wearing glasses, for safety!
Ha, so one hit my forearm and felt like a bee sting, so I looked:
There, was an inch of wire sticking out of my forearm, like a squiggly little arrow! haha, and, several little red spots from other "hits".so, I look down at my belly (large target) where I had been feeling stuff hit! BBWWhahaaa, I looked like a pin cushion! prolly 2 dozen little wires sticking out of my shirt. Ha, as I wiped them, off, I noted some were sticking in me, too! wow!
Well, I threw that wheel away. dang.

ETA:
BBWWWHAHAHAA........nice one AntiM!

And a very good reason to wear eye protection when using a grinder. oh that would be bad. I've felt those little stings before too. I never really thought it through: I mean the wheels wear down, so wires are flying off.

Ack. I really need a proxy drinker tonight. The project shit storm at work I predicted is gathering, and the person who patted me on the head in October, and said, "don't worry, you don't have any involvement in this." sent me an email about a herculean prep task he needs me to do next week. Plus go to work at midnight Thursday. I lose perspective. I will suit up and show up, do what I can and try to be honest with myself as to whether I am doing my best. Hell, If I avoid meltdown to shrieking harpy, I'll count it as a win.

I'm going to bed early, can't think of anything else that will make me feel better. I already listened to some music, watched parts of bad movies, and read about Everest 2012, talk about cheap and cheerful bad planning.

so, I'm guessing if I come to your house (whomever) and ask if I can help, and you give me a wire wheel on a grinder and say to clean stuff.........we really aren't friends.

Ah, Friday night, and the bar's empty...

Hm...
Well, maybe I'll fill balloons with cheap vodka and throw them at people on the street...

I missed vodka balloons? Damn.

How's the chimney, Yggy? All I got were the neighbor's leaves. Tidy piles caught on stuff on the driveway and patio, so strange.

*canters in on War Rabbit, gives "stay" command and tosses "beefy WR biscuit" for treat, since we have to head to the Hof today, just be here a couple of mins*
*scritches rabbit behind the ears, avoiding spiked collar*

*wanders in, makes CCC*

I'm ok with missing vodka balloons........it may be the one liquor I just don't like.
Hi AntiM! I'm heading up in an hour or so, so, will report back on the chimney........they said more 90 mph gusts over the summit yesterday, so, a super test for the design. I'd say I've got a 50% chance it stayed. But I'm hoping.

Our high winds for Friday seem to have skipped my neighborhood after the Thursday walloping, but in North Ogden RV's were blown onto their roofs and kid's play structures were toppled. Yikes.

Hope you don't find several feet of snow, our mountains are due for quite a bit of white stuff.

AntiM, sounds like Utah has quite a wind storm. Lots of my family living in northern Utah said that the lights were out that night. Do they still call them the "hatu" winds.
Thats one thing that I dont miss about living in Uhah.

Yesterday I finally took the camper off the truck, and drove it some.
That's the first time it's moved since returning from the playa.
IF I get motivated enough I'll get the Land Yacht down off the trailer. It's still pretty much untouched too.

wait, Captain. It'll rain first, that will wash it off. Then it will be sunny, and that will dry it off. might as well wait.
