Re: Black Rock Observatory
Thanks for the clarification, Chief Dan Fox. I was disheartened to read your original post about the moon's visibility, but I wasn't considering the viewing angle - some aspiring astronomer I am!
When he lights his streetlamp, it is as if he brought one more star to life, or one flower.
When he puts out his lamp, he sends the flower, or the star, to sleep.
That is a beautiful occupation.

Wow, I missed a lot here, we're spinning many plates. We're definitely bringing a big scope and a dome, I have a 20" f4.5 mirror on my dining room table right now and 2,500 pounds of imported Latvian birch sitting at a CNC shop ready to be cut next week. http://blackrockobservatory.com

Hey Dan!
if the Moon is invisible at the horizon, you gotta roll your big machine over here so we can see your Moon instead. We can probably give you a proper rectal exam with the scope! Love your project!!!

Re: Black Rock Observatory
We have lugged our kids telescope out every year and every year it sits in the box while we are distracted doing other things. A star part sounds like just the thing to get us "remembering" we have it with us!
I'm excited to see your project. Deep playa exploring is my favorite thing to do and I can't wait to find you.

When the only tool you got is a hammer, every problem looks like a hippie.

Re: Black Rock Observatory
I am particularly excited to visit this project, looks amazing. Fantastic work already!
When out of your shell, don't forget to bring it with.
Re: Black Rock Observatory
Just thinking a radio astronomy observatory would not be damaged by the dust. Heck, the VLA has 28 antennas, since I work there maybe they would let me borrow one. Just a little transportation problem, but IT SURE WOULD LOOK GREAT OUT ON THE PLAYA.
How about a radio JOVA using a old 12ft tv dish???
If we build it will they come?
I am talking about space aliens, after all New Mexico is full of them.
