Seasonally Based Shopping Tips

Post by theCryptofishist » Fri Dec 06, 2013 12:18 pm

Right now is the best time to go out to the big box store to buy battery operating led light strings. Don't wait until after xmus. These don't last that long. Either because they are cheap and have to be replaced every year, or because they are still somewhat exotic and the market isn't saturated yet.
(I'm leaving aside the discussion about the best way to light yourself or your bike. Let's just say it's the least you can/should do.)

After xmuss is the time to get plastic bins to pack with, a burningman staple since before I went.

I have handfuls of the battery lights, terrific for quick personal lighting. Solar strings and solar bush nets around this time of year too. Great stuff.

This isn't a great picture, and we usually have more lights, but we do a canopy of solar LEDs on the Rhoadescar. Looks way cool at night.

Just saw piles of LED xmas lights (plug-in) at Walgreens marked half-off. Looked like a weekly sale though, so I wouldn't wait.

Tractor Supply just got in the 12 packs of led flashlights for $10. Stock up. I hand them out to darkwads.

Last year as we were walking out to the man a young man passed us heading back in yelling "i don't have a light, I don't have a light" over and over. I handed him a flashlight, he hugged me and kept going without missing a beat "I have a light, I have a light"
