Alvord looks perfect. I can overnight with all my relatives in Alturas. Win, win.

Uh, Ratty, I mapped it - Black Rock Desert is 50 miles closer to Alturas than Alvord.

Thanks Capt. Alturas is 7 miles past the end of the Earth. I went there once by accident and the whole town seemed to be populated by my relatives. Coffee shop, School, propane company, General store/Post Office etc... I most likely would have taken the long way to avoid it.

Well then where the hell do all the hippies come from? I know they hide out in Oregon somewhere.

If Burning Man moved...

As a wee lad in elementary school, at the start of the holidays, my family loaded up to go pick up my sister who was attending college out of state. With us in the station wagon was my sisters future husband Terry, along with my mom, dad, and two younger siblings. Traveling in the dark down the highway south towards Ohio Terry asked out-loud in the car "Did you hear who moved?" Ears picked up, someone asked "Who?" Terry answered, "My bowels!" While Terry laughed, my parents explained to the younger kids what bowels were. If Burning Man moved, would I still go? I suppose if he gave a shit, so would I.

A lot of the Wallyworld stores now do not allow overnight RV parking.....
Our local store has signs posted all along the outer parking lot edges as to such.
So the theme this year is like a giant camp out in the desert? With people bringing lots of shit from all over? uh.. -Marscrumbs

I was looking at some abandoned military bases, such as old dirigible bases (e.g. Tustin, CA), but they're actually way too small despite looking like huge facilities. Denver International Airport, one of the largest in the world, would have the room for the center playa area, but not so much the city as a contiguous mass, which would need to be spread out around inside the area where the terminals and parking lots are.

Edwards Air Force Base, the second largest in the US, is way too small too in terms of paved area. The playa next to the base would barely fit the city, but not the full size of the pentagon. It does have a pretty cool compass rose though:

Image

If we demolished parts of Manhattan Island, we could probably barely fit the city itself into it (including center playa). Likewise, BRC itself (not the pentagon) would cover nearly all of Washington DC's major downtown area. It's pretty insane just how large BRC is.

Alvord has become the venue for land speed racing - the blackrock is no longer suitabnle - Why? BMAN does leave a permanent imprint. The rains and flooding in the winter and spring certainly help, but do not erase the streets completely and at 800MPH the Blackrock is no longer viable for land speed racing.

Alvord is physically the same in feel and weather, smaller though and less used. While it would have the same BLM stipulations, Pershing county would be out of the picture.

Will there be as much booze, fireworks, and gratuitous nudity at said venue?

I bet these would remain largely the same, but I don't EVEN want to think about the transformation coming to "Simon's Greeters"...

And of course, Gate would be issued AK-47s and enough acid to give chromosome damage to a school bus, but I digress...
