My original reaction to this was the thought that I should probably have just fucking BURNED my pillows a hundred times at least over the last year.

Then I remembered how much they cost me. I do like a good quality feather pillow.

THEN I remembered a little trick I used to do religiously, and then somehow spaced. (having nothing really to do with sleep, but more with bedding maintenance)

Did you know that if you put unwashable things like feather pillows, or duvets or couch cushions or mattresses (feather or otherwise) outside when it's colder than -22c it kills all the dustmites that have accumulated in there?

Guess whose porch is now full of unlikely stuff??? :-)

I like that the ultra cold has a usefulness other than getting me to sweep the floor and do the dishes.
Good on you, delle.

I bought a total of 5 feather pillows for my bed. It's HOME. It's where I spend a third of my life, might as well make it comfy. Sheets and pilowcases washed weekly. Good 600 threads/inch cotton sheets. The mattress and box were brand new two years ago. No lumps.

And when I sleep, I sleep a wonderful sleep.

For insomnia, I've always grabbed the NY Times crossword puzzle books. Then I'm out like a light.

Maybe leaving that stuff out a few days in Black Rock Desert would kill all the bugs just as well.

Sure, but when I shake mine out over my bed tonight all I'm going to get is a good whiff of fresh cool air.

It would take me till next wednesday to clean out your method.

Yeah the First Mate (Charlie) does that too. She will not go to bed without turning on that fan. I could live without the breeze but it's not a big enough deal to raise a ruckus over.

I used to sleep with all the lights on, TV on, whole place running at full tilt.

In Norway, it is customary to place babies outdoors for their naps, even in the coldest winter. They pack the baby in a big fancy perambulator, with about two feet of eider down, top and bottom, and just the baby's nose sticking out to benefit from the fresh air, and roll the perambulator out on the garden patio.

Of course... assuming this was done to me... it might explain a few things.

...and those babies were probably all the stronger for it...

I, on the other hand, stuck outside this morning in my pyjamas and coat -- no hat or mitts and wet socks in my insufficient boots in -34c(-44 with windchill) for a half an hour as the door would not open for me after dropping my son off at work at 5:50, DO NOT FEEL THE STRONGER AT ALL.

I'm still freezing, and I've been back inside for over an hour!

Froze to the bone i tell you....

Catchy tune. I'll remember it for next time....

No wait! Maybe there's something else I should remember first....

I'd forgotten we even had one of those......

Our front door has a finicky doorknob and deadbolt setup that you have to finesse and get the hang of to open even from inside. Every time I go out to do something quick (garbage, get something from car etc.) dressed about like you were and not carrying a key I'm nervous about that door. I don't fully close it. But Charlie.... she doesn't like the door not being latched. If she sees it she will close and lock it. And she would never hear me from up in our room.

Tell me more about this "doorbell" thing... In today's age of cell phones and just calling people I faintly remember something about them but I've forgotten.

Sounds like a dreadful experience, Delle. "What doesn't kill you will make you strong" But yes, a good story because you came through ok! Brrrrrrrrrrrr

Enjoy Falstaff, MDF, we just saw it at the SF Opera about 6 weeks ago. It's a hoot with wonderful Verdi music!

Warmed up and should be in the low 60's here today. Morning, Captain, Anti M and Sham

Woke up to two cat accidents in the house this morning. Cat has been fully house broken for years, but he found a bathtub to leave a solid "gift" and a spare bed to leave a liquid one. Now trying to fit a large down comforter in the washing machine. Bleaaaa! Guess the cat graduates to being an outdoor cat for most of the time. He didn't even look guilty, just his same inscrutable self! Otherwise, a beautiful morning.

Cats peeing in new places can mean a lot of things, including diabetes. Or they're bored with their litter....

wow Marty.......that's a drag. I think I'd be a little concerned about the kitties health, or even emotions. With critters outside that might eat it, it may feel like it can't go out.........and well, we all answer when nature calls.

Hi Patsh, YG and Happy Birthday Tink!

Cat is really fine outdoors and has a warm place under the house next to the warm furnace. Spends most of his time outdoors so no worries. He just got stuck in the house last night and nature made a non negotiable call I guess. We are not fans of litter boxes in the house. But I really find it hard to imagine that aside from a feline, kitty litter is not something to faun over. Chocolate, a fine wine, a beautiful woman, sure, but kitty litter not so much.

Had some fine tennis and with a great partner on my side of the court, we were the victors in straight sets! Art opening tonight at the Marin Museum of Modern Art for a wonderful artist and very dear friend who did a wonderful oil portrait of me for a birthday present a few years ago.

Have a great evening, kiddies

I wonder if Mikegyver got his jeep moved.........dang thats a bummer.

So I think we're gonna plan, again, to drive up to the playa on Sunday of the Amtrakathon. It was so cold last year, but, very cool to see it all frozen and barren. We'll probably call ahead to Bruno, since that many folks stopping in is something they'll need to know ahead of time.

Maybe, just maybe we'll be lucky and see GH?........
