Minneapolis first timer.

Post by mrpieterson » Mon Dec 16, 2013 1:57 pm

I am looking forward to probably one of the most incredible and unique experiences of my life. My name is Pieter and hail from west-metro Minneapolis. On my birthday this past October the idea of attending this week long journey struck me, and now I must go! I am still in the process of reading all existing documentation in preparation for this event, but if you have some pointers that sometimes get missed please shoot something my way. I am hoping to optimize my experience as much as I can by participating in any way possible that a first timer can.

A bit about myself: I am an aspiring MN-grown artist; graphic and web designer by day, oil painter by night. I enjoy wide variety of things, from food, social events, and activities. My easy-going and animated personality make connecting with complete strangers quite easy. I am an adventurer when time and money allows, will try anything twice, do well and am content with very little.

I look forward to connecting with many of your before, during and hopefully after Burning Man 2014.

-Pieter

We welcome the stranger, but that doesn't mean we have to like them, nor they us, and that's alright. - AntiM

Hey Pieter! Welcome. 2014 will be my first time as well, and I'm in North Dakota (Grand Forks). I was thinking about hooking up with some regionals in your area before the burn! Looking forward to meeting you :)

cosmic-honey, I'm gonna shoot you a quick pm. I'm excited to hear another midwesterner planning for their first trip out there.

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Hey !
Welcome to eplaya !

A quick advice that I found pretty usefull for my first burn last year : don't bring too much food. In the playa you're not as hungry as you can be in the default world, and you don't really need 3 real meals a day. Basically, you will only need one good hot meal a day : like, one good pasta/rice/whatever for lunch. If you bring stuff for breakfast and snack (chips, dried fruits, jerky, etc.), it will be enough.

have fun !

I appreciate the warm welcome and the info on your camp community. There's a lot of great info in such condensed (and well organized) space. Yours is actually the first community I've looked deeper into and enjoyed reading how well put together you all are. Hopefully we'll be in touch again soon. Thanks again!

Awesome, thanks! I've got more research to do myself so will have to get back to you on things that I still haven't found answers to. Cheers!
