:D
Happy New Year, all! And I approve of Simon's sentiment!

Glad to hear about good fireworks in San Francisco. Around here it was mostly gunfire. Sounded like a war out there for half hour, but I did not notice any bullets falling thru the roof. A well armed neighborhood is a polite neighborhood!

In an hour I'm going on a guided nature walk in absolutely pristine terrain. No moop at all -- and I'm not the only one who keeps it that way. Anderson Marsh State Historic Park -- the pearl of Clearlake. Miles of hiking trails. This particular trail was overgrown for a couple years, and has recently been cleared again. I've walked there already, but the guides know all about the flora and fauna.

Ah... that Mimosa tasted mahvelous. Thanks!

Hi MDF, Anti M, Unjohn, Capt GD and Elliot. Started off 2014 winning both sets of tennis this morning. My partner and I with a combined total years of 162.5, beat a couple of youngsters with total years of 137. So, at least in the tennis realm, things started of very OK! :D  8) Now to the Mimosas!

Anti M, love your new photo!

Cheers

We were tempted to either head down to the Embarcadero for it, or take the lazier route and walk up the hill a block (we've got an incredible view of the downtown/waterfront/bay bridge from there), but instead we took the even lazier route of staying under the covers

Here's a pic that ran in the Chronicle, it's of the SF waterfront and fireworks as seen from Oakland.

Congrats on the tennis wins, Marty!

You hang here, because they don't allow you in real bars. According to unjon, in any case...

*wanders in, makes CCC*
Hi MDF!! have fun? at work. I know those patients are lucky to have you on their side!
yeah, great new pic AntiM!

well, it's my nervous day: daughter driving 7 hours back to school.....been a great visit, though.
Seems the surgery was a success!! The doc says maybe not permanent, but if it ever needs to be re-done, it'll be outpatient type stuff. so that's good.

So, we're getting ready to finish a parking barrier job, around a pioneer (gold rush era) Jewish cemetery in our town. And, it's looking like it might be exciting:
The crack head residents of the neighborhood, who have been parking, dumping trash, and leaving used oil and who knows what else, are resentful of this project. They have let their pit bull, and pit bull type, dogs loose to intimidate members as they survey and clean the place. Also veiled physical threats. These folks are mostly in their 70's or so.
So, I'm buying the crew pepper spray, and a couple of us may also carry pointed sticks  , as this work progresses......I've notified the cops and they said they'd "try" to come by a few times during the day....yeah, like you'll be there when something goes wrong (if something goes wrong).
Well, I told them the situation in very plain English, and explained, none of us will wait to get bitten, to defend, and none of us will wait if physically threatened....
Their response was to "do what you have to do".....

I had sort of hoped they'd react with "well have a patrol come by quite often". I know they can't leave a patrol there, but at least say they'll be around a lot......

Yggy, so glad your daughter's surgery helped, and left no detrimental effects... I've been wondering how it turned out.
Good luck with the new project! At least you've covered your ass in the self-defense department.

Happy 2014 to ALL!!!

Absolutely great that your daughter's surgery was a total success, yggy. Glad to hear it's done with.
