Hey from Seattle!

Post by BigInSeattle » Thu Jan 09, 2014 11:42 am

Hey everyone! Just checking in from the Seattle area. This is going to be my 1st time at BM and I'm very much looking forward to it. So far it looks like I'm going solo unless I can convince some lame friends that they won't be eaten by wolverines when they show up.

My wife probably can't go since she doesn't have enough time off from work. (I have 5 weeks...muahahahah)

Anyways, I know it's a subjective question but is the entire week+ too long to spend if going alone or would it be smarter to turn it into a 3-4 night trip?

Assume you are going to like it and plan for the whole week. It's much easier to leave early than it is to stay past exodus.

Greetings fellow Seattleite!

I'm a first timer as well, so I can speak about attending/camping alone from personal experience, though I have had friends who have attended alone and had great fun. I would imagine it, like so many other things, is a matter of how willing you are to be entirely self reliant as well how willing you are to put yourself out there for people to meet.

Self-reliance isn't too much of an issue. Being outgoing and meeting people is more of an issue so I just need to make sure not to be a pussy if I end up by myself. From the looks of it I think there would be plenty to do for a week even if you weren't that outgoing.

If you're not super outgoing but still wish to meet people, this is your thread. :)

Seattle also has a lot of Burners, and you might like to meet some beforehand. Go to the "Regionals" link on the top right of the main site and find your regional group. :)

You might not want to convince stubborn friends to go--people who have to be persuaded more than a little are the most likely to have a bad time. It's a lot of work getting there, and the environment is obviously a challenge. An unhappy campmate is not something I would wish on anyone.

Welcome. Plan for the week, stay as long as you feel comfortable. Check out the theme camp and art threads, maybe there would be art and activities which you;d like to explore. If nothing else, come to the meet n greet!

As stated earlier, get involved with local Burners...very welcoming folks. Sign on to [email protected] for local info. Circle mid-July on your calendar for our week-long Critical NW event. Welcome!
Don't bore your friends with all your troubles. Tell your enemies instead, for they will delight in hearing about them.
