Tickets in the event of a Death?

Post by Suvillia » Wed Jan 15, 2014 11:55 am

My name is Sarah Young and my father David Young was an avid member of the Burning Man community. He went by Lbhat or Pound Hat. Unfortunately my father passed away in October.

I need help finding who to contact about his wishes and about the ticket he possibly receives for having volunteered the previous year.

Also my family wishes to go as well. We want to make a camp as Camp Pound Hat in remembrance of my father. In total we need four tickets. I remember my fathers concerns about how the ticket process kept being changed.

hi and welcome.
first, my condolences, I remember LBHat from posting here, good person. dang sorry.
Ticket sales will be coming up and announced soon.
If he volunteered, and was to receive a ticket, I'd suggest contacting that dept. directly, or the volunteer coordinators, linkable from the main Burning Man website.

Fuck. FUCK.

Sarah, your dad was amazing. I posted here on eplaya needing help with an art project and, seeing that I was in his geographic area, he immediately contacted me and offered his time and expertise, as well as access to his tools. Rather than working the tools for me, he empowered me to do the labor myself, creating art as I never had before. That sort of gift is what burning is all about.

After I first meet him to draw up plans, we scheduled to meet up again a week later for full-scale production of the art. This was in early October. Now I understand why he wasn't able to meet with me that second time.

I don't know about volunteer tickets, but I am happy to talk with you on the phone or by email about the general ticket process and life out on the playa. I think it would be a fine tribute to your dad and a way to learn about something that was important to him.

As mentioned above by ygmir, if you know what sort of volunteering he did during Burning Man, you can contact that department to meet those he worked alongside. I think I remember him saying DPW ("Department of Public Works"), but I'm not sure if my memory is correct. If you know the work he did, we here on eplaya may be able to help you figure out the department.

My condolences to you and yours. I only knew him briefly, but he was a great guy.
When he lights his streetlamp, it is as if he brought one more star to life, or one flower.
When he puts out his lamp, he sends the flower, or the star, to sleep.
That is a beautiful occupation.

I'm sorry he was unable to meet with you a second time. I had known about it but had no idea of how to contact you. Thank you for your kind words.

Sarah, If you come to the playa you will have brought your fathers DNA.
That would say a lot.. and in that case you are already a burner.. See you in the dust..

No worries at all - the art got made in time with the help of other area burners. The most important part was your dad's gift: the spark of "you can do it," that infusion of confidence from an experienced craftsman.

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your father. Regarding tickets, you can find out more information about Burning Man tickets here. As for the ticket your father would have earned for his volunteering, that would be something to take up with the team that he volunteered with. If you don't know what he did or who he worked with at the event, you may want to send an email to [email protected] with as much info as you have.
