I would also add, that cooking for 50 is a much different skill than cooking for 12-20. It's one thing if you are serving the public. It's a lovely gift, and playa time is certainly expected. It's quite another thing when they are dues paying campers waiting for their one hot meal of the day.

I am a bit blown away by how a simple question about getting cooking gear can get so personal and nasty so quickly. Would you respond this way to somebody at BRC. Can't people be a bit more polite and just answer the question directly rather than putting their Burnier Than Thou spin on it? . There seem to be a lot of resident trolls

Lots of history here. There is a lot of value in some of the responses. And there is a pattern if you have been here a while. It gets old. Different vantage points provide different opinions on who the trolls are.

Most of the posters in this thread are fabulous people that I would trust with my life. A couple I absolutely know would just get off on the drama of it all.

Restaurant supply stores sell disposable aluminum chafing dishes that use small sterno cans to keep the food warm. They are very inexpensive and they have a wire rack that supports the aluminum pans. May be a bit heavy on the trash quotient but I have cleaned and reused them several times before recycling.

Geez, you people, can't you just be a faceless, impersonal, free, easy, source of information when it is demanded? blows me the fuck away. oy, the nerve, adding bits of advice, commentary, and even... criticism. I'm taking my ball and going home to Trolltown.

geoffgn, as has been stated already, this is not just a board filled with cyphers, it's real human beings answering questions, and some of the people have been on here for years. Just like any group that's together for a long time you're going to see personality differences come out, and while it may just appear like "trolling" to you, what you're seeing are the honest reactions of people - on both sides - based on past interactions both on and off the playa.

As we state in the Overview to the ePlaya for new members:
Community
One of the major things you'll discover that makes the ePlaya different from a lot of other online forums is that this is not an anonymous group yelling on the internet; people on here get to know each other pretty well, either on the actual playa itself (there is an "ePlaya Meet 'n Greet" at Burning Man every year on Wednesday night) or at outside events. We're not just names, we're actual people; regular posters tend to know how each other are going to respond on subjects because, just like offline, those tend to be real opinions, not just something tossed out to start trouble.

Because of that, there's going to be inside jokes and a feeling of familiarity in the way people interact (and even regulars who don't talk to each other); The more you hang around and read the board, the more you'll get a feel for it. Regardless of our differences we do have something very amazing in common; everyone is on the ePlaya because of our love of Burning Man, and to learn & share ideas and knowledge about it.

What sort of dues to does one pay to camp in Trolltown, and what is the kitchen like?
