BM ticketing partner account

Post by engineer2012 » Wed Jan 22, 2014 3:57 am

Hi
For purchasing an event ticket one will need to do three actions:
1) get yourself a Burner profile
2) register via the Burner profile that you want to purchase an event ticket, within the given time window
3) make an account at the BM ticketing partner (prior or during ticked purchase)

For action three I have a question:
a. is there a requirement that the email addresses for the Burner profile and the account of the BM ticketing partner are the same?
b. may the passwords for both accounts be the same?

My first guess for both questions: does not matter, two different organisations.

I did search on the BM website. Noanswer found.

I don't think #3 exists.

I will do what I did last year.

I've registered a profile.

I'll register for tickets on the appropriate date.

On "ticket day" I'll click on the ticket links and wait 6 hours for verification that I actually have succeeded in purchasing a ticket. 8)

I'm guessing it's awkward wording in the email, but Trilo will be able to find out more and let us know.

The ticketing partner is a totally separate company (Ticketfly), so you can use any e-mail/password login information.

I registered with them and will be using it for a pre-sale ticket this afternoon. What I did was to login to my burner profile and my Ticketfly account so that I was logged in to both prior to the sale. I know the ticketing faq says you don't need to be logged in to the ticketing partner account prior to the sale, but I thought it was better to be logged in rather than not.

Ok, it made no difference to be logged in to the ticketing partner Ticketfly account before the sale. See why below.

Here is my experience in how the ticket purchasing process worked for me during the 2014 pre-sale:

1) Log in to your burner profile and there is a link at the bottom to purchase tickets, or you can use the link in your registration e-mail.
2) Enter the promo code that was provided to you during registration; you should have this in an e-mail, written down, etc.
3) After entering the promo code a popup login window appears. There was nothing I saw saying this, but it was a Ticketfly login screen.
4) In the popup window enter the Ticketfly login info (e-mail and password). You will be prompted for this regardless if you already logged in to your account say in another window.
5) You will then be taken to the ticketing screen where you can purchase tickets and vehicle passes.

NOTE: Ticketfly's web page says they accept Visa, MC, AMEX, Diners Club, Discover, etc., but you will clearly see during the process that when you are purchasing Burning Man tickets your only options are VISA and MASTERCARD. PLEASE BE AWARE OF THIS. Don't go trolling Ticketfly's web page looking for purchasing options, because Burning Man requirements clearly state VISA and MC only.

Good luck! I can't wait to meet you all out on the playa!

Yep - as per the posted ticketing information, Visa and MasterCard (as well as Visa/MC debit cards) are the only forms of payment accepted.

I think it was also mentioned in the email sent to presale registrants (as well as posted on the Ticket Support site's presale FAQ) that presale customers would need to create an account on the Ticketfly web site. That can be done at the time of purchase or in advance.

It's entirely possible I missed something, but I don't seem to have a promo code. I've had a Burning Man profile for a year now, have reviewed all e-mail related to creating my profile, and did not note a promo code. Do those of us with older profiles need to create a new one?

Did you sign up for the pre-sale ticket sale. Go to tickets.burningman.com

All the dates are clearly listed there. If you did not register for the pre-sale (this does not mean register for a Burner Profile, this means register for the pre-sale during the posted dates). If you did register during the given days contact BMORG to see why you never received your code. If you did NOT register for the pre-sale, you missed out and will have to get a ticket through the upcoming sales. I'd suggest noting the registration dates and being sure to register for the next sale. best of luck.

While I have no interest in signing up for pre-sale, I did in fact try to register for it, basically thinking to work out kinks now, rather than bug-hunting when it counts in the open sale. There's something I'm missing, because I can't even try to register for the pre-sale without the promo code. I established a Ticketfly account, haven't seen follow-on confirmation e-mail, no promo code. Reading through BM profile confirmation e-mails, no promo code. BM ticket support/info pages are, in a word, worthless.

The questions are very simple and very basic - who provides the promo code to me, and what specifically do I have to do to convince the promo code provider to send it to me? If the answer is, delete current BM profile and create a new one, fine, I can do this. If the answer is, Ticketfly provides it when they successfully establish my account, fine, I can push them to do so.

I just need to know roles so I can push the proper buttons. This is where I'd appreciate it if Trilobyte weighed in with actionable steps to resolve.

If you registered (which is an additional step than simply creating a Burner Profile), but did not receive an email with instructions the day before the sale started, then you may have an issue with your email provider blocking automated messages from some senders. The telecom providers, most notably pacbell and att, are terrible at this. I imagine that they've all got a variant of the same system that started offering a 'service' to their customers where they provide low-level blocking of messages, which translates to the customer never seeing the messages to begin with. If you're experiencing that kind of problem, you'd need to work it out with your email provider (to disable whatever blocking they're doing, add Burning Man to some kind of whitelist, etc). The big providers (gmail, yahoo, etc) all give the user pretty good controls over what gets filtered, and gives the user the option to log into a web portal and see the messages that have been blocked).

Regardless of the email, another thing you could do (and also mentioned when signing up, I believe) is just log back into your burner profile once the sale has begun. The promo code should appear in your sparkly things.

And of course, as always, if you need further assistance with ticketing related issues, go to the Ticketing Support site linked in my signature. Check the FAQ, and contact the team if your issue is not listed.

You in fact did NOT register for the pre-sale if you are CURRENTLY looking to register for the pre-sale since the registration ENDED... Check out the tickets page... You can even Google 'Burning Man Tickets' if you do not know how to access the site through the link I provided you with. You need to have a profile, which I'm guessing you did, and then through that was enough to get you registered for the pre-sale... Alas you are wrong. You should have gone to the TICKETS page during the dates stipulated on the page and then REGISTERED for the pre-sale. When you REGISTER for the pre-sale (YOU CAN'T DO IT ANYMORE since the dates have passed) you are then sent a promo code to use once the sale beings. A Ticketfly account need not be established until you are ready for purchase. Sorry you read the entire site incorrectly and did that thinking it would garner a promo code for a Burning Man ticket.

Since you stated that you missed step 2, you can't effectively make it to step 3.

So to answer you AGAIN.... YOU need to register for the next sale you are qualified to do so for. You go to the BURNING MAN TICKETS page and register since they are the ones who host the event... Ticketfly is simply the ticket partner, dear.

Sadly you missed the fact that you didn't read in the first place. I also await Trilo's response on this!

Hey, I already answered!

As for creating an account on the ticketfly page, that was something both covered in the FAQ and the email sent out to registrants for the pre-sale (it also only applies to users participating in the pre-sale, directed group sale and individual sale participants will not need to create a ticketfly account). Pre-sale participants can also create a ticketfly account on-the-spot. I believe it sends a confirmation email that needs to be clicked, if you're not receiving that then yes you are definitely having a serious problem with your choice of email provider, and need to work that out with them asap.

I sign into ticketfly through my facebook account.. Am I right to assume that on the ticketfly login, it'll have an option for user name & password, but there will also be a little link to log in through fb?

If you are participating in the pre-sale, you can check that now. If not, it does not matter (a separate ticketfly account is not needed/will not be used for the other ticket sales).

I'm terribly sorry, 9ah, I should have shared the timeline - I attempted to register for the pre-sale on January 17 and worked the problem(s) through January 20; I simply didn't raise the issue in ePlaya until the other day. I can actually read and generally understand what I read. Heartfelt apologies if I caused you any angst.

Trilobyte, thank you for your thoughtful and snark-free replies. Thinking back through the process mentioned above, I don't actually recall seeing the option to register for the pre-sale in my profile, under Sparkly Things, anywhere - only the link to the ticketing page. This implies a problem with my profile, so I now have a place to start looking for issues. If you have any useful hints you'd like to send my way, I would appreciate it.

I can confirm that the pre-sale registration was working fine between January 16th at noon PST and January 20th. Also working without any trouble was the Burner Profiles contact us page (it's linked on the Burner Profiles site, and to be used if you have any trouble with your Burner Profile). The Ticket Support site and contact form has also been working the entire time. ePlaya rocks and has a lot of helpful information, but if you need support with your Burner Profile or ticketing, you should get in touch with the respective team asap.

I'm going to go ahead and close up this thread.

It was only necessary to create an account on Ticketfly (Burning Man's ticketing partner) for the pre-sale, and that sale has now ended. You will not need to create a Ticketfly account in order to participate in the other sales.

If you experienced any issues or problems with registering for or purchasing tickets in the pre-sale, get in touch with the ticket support team at [email protected] asap.
