Junglesmacks, my thoughts on the vehicle passes is that it gives a strong incentive to car pool with others. (is that an oxymoron?) At $40 a car, why not try to get 2 or 3 people in there. With no incentive, there will be many cars with just one lone person and a ton of booze.

Hording VP's might sound like a great idea, but my guess is that people that try will be stuck using them as $40 book marks when the event is over. It's a WIN/WIN/WIN for the org! Wanna play that game? Why not buy just what you need for VP's!

This VP thing reminds me a bit of the $20 exit/entry pass to the event. Before there was a fee many years back, people would come and go daily just to get a Snickers bar or make a quick phone call home to mama. It was constant traffic in and out. With the $20 fee, it caused people to think if it was REALLY important to leave and come back.

Time will tell if the VP works, but frankly it appears to be a big step in the right direction.

Hi,
I have a feeling presale tickets will sell out faster then in previous years. Due to purchase date. Presale and main sale is only one month apart from eachother. December is an expensive month. Not all are able to survive the holiday month and buy tickets. The extra month gives extra financial room.
For me personnal I have to save money for three years (I am Dutch) so only able to attent once every three years. This to not make a hole in the family savings, and the vacantion days per year. For me BM is an extra holiday, takes 12 vacantion days. And I have only 27 per year.
Anyway, good luck to everyone who wants a ticket, presale or otherwise, I will try my luck in 2015. Hopefully again in the presale and again in December (this year), as it was for the 2012 event.

Last year I had a meeting with a colleague, an American. (I work for an American company).
He asked me if I've ever been to the US. Well yes, once. In 2012 for BM. Not counting the transit stop to Mexico. He never heard of it. By far not all US know about BM, I guess.

Yes, you start with 10 days a year, right? By law we have 20 days at minimum. Most companies will give more at start, and will add a day for 10 years service etc. Indeed for US people it is a matter of choise: family holiday, BM, family all together to BM? How do you all do that?

Many, many jobs here do not come with the benefit of any paid vacation at all. There are others that offer a week. It is a big benefit to get two weeks paid vacation for a new hire and many of those don't allow that until after the first year of employment.

I would also note that there can be real cultural pressure in some organizations here in the US against taking the vacation days you are allowed. Seeing all the international burners has really put into perspective how different the work culture is here in the US.

It is a point of scandal that I take three weeks or even just two weeks in a row at my place of employment. A previous manager told me that if they can live without me two weeks, they can live without me forever. I said no one is indispensable. I wasn't too worried by here at that point, she was on her way to being fired for theft. We hire some doozies in management.

I'm a federal worker. The bargain has long been that while we don't get paid as well as those who work in the "private sector", we get better benefits, including more vacation. We get paid holidays as well as, when we have worked there for long enough, 8 hours vacation for every 80 worked.
I don't understand why, as a whole, we accept the huge lack of vacation in this country...

My vacation days were cut this year, going from four to three. (Note, I work 7 days a week most weeks, so 4 weeks vacation is the LEAST they can do)

I'm going to spend 2 of my three weeks on burning man.

Yeah, last year I was forced to take time off last year--furlough--okay, with me, because time is nice, and, (to put it in caravansary terms) this camel has a hump, but my co-workers are middle class people trying to raise kids and all...

And there was the shutdown. Sure, we ended up being paid, but it still felt like a huge slap in the face...

Wow, I am sorry. Seems that I have really underestimated the vacantion days in the US. Three or four days a year, or nothing at all. How is that possible? Does that mean that for some time off one will have to take unpaid leave?
On the other hand, you are used to it (not really an excuse), and will be finacial compensated. So hour rates are higher then here in the Netherlands? Or not?
Anyway, there should be a law which states a minimum amount of paid vacantion days. It is not fair.

Yep. Many hourly workers don't get paid if they take a vacation day. Some don't even have paid sick days.

We have an odd culture here in the US. No real socialist agenda despite what some politicians claim. It's the weird flipside of the American Dream. Anyone can make it, but the assumption is that if you don't then you didn't work hard enough.

I grant myself a lot of vacation, but I do work for myself, so of course I'm not paid. :D

But yes, the US sucks as far as leave time goes. And we aren't necessarily paid all that well either. And have a crappy health care system.

question from a burgin...

When I log in to burner profiles, I get the below the message:"The registration period for the tickets Pre-Sale is now closed." Does this mean I am not registered for presale and have missed out?
For some reason I was silly and though by creating a profile I was also registering for the presale - but its looking like thats not the case...

If thats the case I guess I will have to wait until the individual sale, and try again the right way.
Thanks in advance!

Ten minutes and counting.... I've had such a rough two days, and to be on the verge of this is bringing a smile to my face. BM is such a nice place to let your thoughts wander when the day sucks.

Vacation time - Tamara - I have been given crap over taking time off, too. Regardless of having accrued five weeks, they were pissed I was gone 3. I also got the answer of "if we can do without you 3 weeks we can do without you." They seem to miss the point that employees who rest are better employees.

Nine minutes. Weeeee.

More problems with ticketing. Here's what you get when you try to purchase 1 ticket and 1 vehicle pass:

"Sorry, we are unable to complete your order. You requested to purchase more than the maximum quantity allowed for Pre-Sale Ticket tickets at the BURNING MAN 2014 event. There is a purchase limit of 4 items."

I was having dinner with a friend of mine and her father, who used to run a (quasi-?) governmental agency. His take on it was that the biggest cost was people, so it's cheaper in the long run to treat them right. Or at least that's how I understood it. We were talking about the fact that when my workplace is done with the building project, some of my co-workers will only have 30 square feet of office space allotted to them...

Sorry, we are unable to complete your order. You requested to purchase more than the maximum quantity allowed for Pre-Sale Ticket tickets at the BURNING MAN 2014 event. There is a purchase limit of 4 items.

I have only asked for 2 tickets. What is going on?
