A Sterling Englishman

Post by TheSterlingG » Wed Feb 05, 2014 9:01 am

Hey all,

I am over in the USA for 3months (mid June - mid Sept) and would love to join you all at Burningman 2014 (alone!).
What's it like getting tickets? Is it USA delivery only?

I will have an acoustic guitar with me and cd's to dj with, is it easy to get on and perform at the extravaganza?

I will also be alone, are people generally happy to help out and share RV's? (with money to cover any cost obviously, I'm not a free-loader)

Any information is much appreciated!

Yours Burningly,

TheSterlingG :D

.
Acoustic guitar, yes! You don't even need a stage -- just start playing somewhere, anywhere.

DJing, no!

Are you from Sterling? But then you'd be a Scot.

At least I remembered that Sterling isn't Sheffield before I said something really embarrassing.

You've got lots of time to research this forum, make contacts, plans. A rideshare board will pop up June-July timeframe. Check in with your local regional contacts...yes, you're not the first Brit to attend.
Don't bore your friends with all your troubles. Tell your enemies instead, for they will delight in hearing about them.

Be sure to read the 1st timers guide & ticketing information that is online.

(Hopefully Trilo will chime in, they're in his signature if you weren't able to find them on the site.

Best of luck.

Thanks A lawt everyone.
I'm not Scot, I'm actually from Manchester, Sterling is an alias for DJing (The Sterling G).

Well hopefully, I'll get a ticket and meet up with some people and experience some magic.
Will check out the guide and info too.

Thanks.

Ah. My sister lives in Upper Mill (Oldham), and my niece is in Manchester. She used to work in Salford. Or something. That confused me, maybe she lived in Salford. But I think she's not doing anything in Salford any more, and she seems to think that is a good thing.
So. Any good stories about the Curry Mile?

* You can buy tickets, but international orders are not delivered, they're held at Will Call.

* Look under "Stages Seeking Artists" in the 2014 Art and Performance forum in a month or two, for performance opportunities. Playing guitar is quite welcome even just walking down the street or in collaboration with drumming strangers; DJing requires approaching individual camps, and having a thick skin. (Seemingly everyone is a DJ). Big Camps hire DJs almost a year in advance, smaller camps with sound systems might let you play something with less notice, especially if you're camping there.

* Lots of folks are looking for RV shares, but not always this early in the year. Most in S.F./Reno are already booked; Sacramento or Vegas might have something; you never know.

People often seek to fill empty RV spaces in May or June when other folks drop out. Look for situations where there are 1-3 other people, not more. (RV living is more cramped than it sounds.)

* Above all, meet other Brits! This'll get you started:

Welcome! :D

I think we're using the Spark tool rather than the stages and artist threads now.

Hi Sterling. I will be at Burning Man 2014 alone as well!

My first burn was in 2013, and I'm actually quite excited to possibly be travelling, trouble-shooting, setting up camp, etc alone. I'm sure I won't be alone for long!

Well I got my ticket \0/ so I guess I'll see you there!

At some point I'll have to sort out how I'm getting there and where I'm staying of course but I'm sure I'll find some good people to help with that.

aserendipity - I will be in San Fran so yes I will PM nearer the time (around Aug/Sept)

I'll be traveling across the States June - Sept so if you want to keep an eye on how I go and offer advice/help along my way I am on twitter @thesterlinggent

Cheers everyone,
G
