New to Burning Man
Good day all
My name is Jake, I am a single 26years old male. I am from a small town in IL called Troy, I consider it part of the Metro East Saint Louis MO area. I have been reading and reading and reading everything I can about burning man. That is about all I can do at the moment is read. I have been deployed to Afghanistan with the US Navy since 06March2013 and I should return sometime in May2014. I have endured what I think is more extreme conditions than what is to be expected at burning man. No problem, easy day.......Right? Well I'd like to hope I could tough it out. Anyways most of my friends do not want to go, low on funds, or "not ready" for this kind of thing. I have many things to offer, if anything I am one who never complains, always first to help with anything and just bring good company to where ever I go. I want to join a camp, themed or not. If anyone has room for one more that would be great. I have been traveling solo before so it's nothing new to me. I am easy to get along with and make friends quite easy. If anyone in the STL area or Chicago area that are attending this event and has room for one or want to meet up once I am home that would be great.
Thank you for taking the time to read my post

Re: New to Burning Man
welcome!! and thanks for your service!
you'll do fine, just jump in here, read a lot, there are lots of subjects and threads on most anything.
a hint: if you want to search a particular subject, the search here is funky.
use google, and type "eplaya-subject".......it'll usually lead you to several pages and or threads full of info......some good. some funny.

Re: New to Burning Man
Welcome aboard!
You may want to consider a village if you can't find a camp which suits you. We camp in Hushville, no generators, no amplified music, so a good base for exploration. I don't know if our tiny camp will be full this year or not, but we often take in stragglers, or provide support like hauling in water/lending gear if you're going to camp nearby. I'm a Navy vet, MyLarry is retired Navy, there's a ton of us on the playa. At least drop by and say howdy.

Hola Jake!
Welcome to BDV!
I'm with Dye with Dignity, a camp within the Barbie Death Village. Wander on over and dye a silk scarf with us...

Jake - you don't know it yet but you just went from 0 to 120 in a heartbeat camping with BDC. Well done young man! I hope I get the chance to hug you and say thanks for your service.

Re: New to Burning Man
Welcome, Jake! You've fallen in with a great camp.
Military people are some of the best physically and emotionally equipped for the playa of any folks I've ever met.
You can meet some locals in this link and talk to other Burners, compare notes, maybe even find a carpool situation if that's how you wish to go.
