Feed the Artists - Camp D.O.A.'s version...

Post by Peritwinkle » Tue Feb 18, 2014 10:08 am

Greeting Artists!
Camp D.O.A. proudly participated in the Feed the Artists program while it lasted. Since that time we have have found artists to spoil on Sunday night prior to the Burning Man event. This year we are looking for 1 or 2 lead artists representing an artwork project that would like to take a break from their set-up and be spoiled with a nice dinner and wine. We are trying to encourage interaction between our camp, who really appreciates all the fantastic art on the playa, an multiple artists. We are hoping this year to provide decadence to 3 or 4 different artists.

Send us a relpy or PM if you are interested.

FtA is still alive and well as we have been since 2007!

And we'll be doing our thing again on the playa, this year!!!!!

Come see us in the vicinity of 10 & J!

That is fantastic news! Col Angus, are you still matching up theme camps with artists like you did in 2010? If so, where do we sign up?

If you ARE an artist and would still enjoy a nice meal on Sunday 8/24, please let us know! :-)

Nope. Radical self-reliance baby! We found that theme camps who wanted to invite artist groups to dinner were well capable of seeking out those artist groups and inviting them without us serving as an intermediary. What we do is cook really good large meals Thursday, Friday, and Saturday of set up week and then load up all that food onto some our cars and drive around the playa randomly gifting dinner to Art Crews who we find hard at work at their projects. The artists REALLY appreciate this approach because they don't have to leave their projects in order to have a great meal.

We love you guys though, so let's figure out someway to collaborate this year!

Let's switch to email. You can reach me at [email protected]

I've edited the original post to strike through the inaccurate comment about the Feed The Artists project.

They might not have submitted their damn projects yet. Ask again in June.

Relax...it seems incredibly early to have any kind of need to button down who you'll be cooking for and serving to. Speaking personally...at this stage, I'd imagine that most artists are focused on their project's vision and assembling the crew that's going to help them build it, and not thinking too much about who they'll pull off the build and have leave their labor of love to go have a meal at your camp (if you're coming to them, your post doesn't make that clear).

I'd suggest leaving the invitation out there for now and not worrying about it. If you get a response, great, if not - that's okay. Then, keep your eyes out for the list of Honorarium Art Grants, which comes out in the spring. You and your campmates can look through that list, or you can stay tuned to some of the amazing projects that get posted here and elsewhere, and reach out to the people behind a project that really speaks to you.

Also, if you are planning to host dinner at your camp be aware that having them come to you might be a real challenge for any artist. As I mentioned, it means pulling the team off the project and leaving it... on opening night. That's either when they're running late and in the very worst of mad scrambles to get things finished up, or it's their moment of glory and achievement and it would be a shame to ask them to walk away from their masterpiece. You might want to consider either figuring out how to bring your excellent offering to them, or think about having them come to you after Sunday night (when they'll presumably be done, they'll have time, and stress levels will be lower). That way they can appreciate the change of scenery as well as everything your camp has to offer.

Yeah....... I know. After finding out that Feed the Artists goes out and finds the Artists to feed so that they don't have to leave their project, that sounded SO much better! When it was camp linked with Artists and they had to come find us, they were either really late or cancelled. Trilobyte, maybe you and a partner should come by and we can feed you! After all, your art is keeping up with all of these posts throughout the year (along with all your cohorts).

Will have more patience. It is just so exciting! .....and I think I am an OCD type person.

....picking out a nice wine for Trilobyte.

Okay all you artists out there.....

If you think you might be finished with your set-up by Sunday evening and want to be spoiled with some nice champagne, wine, and good food, then pick 2 people and contact me for details.

We hope to be on 3 o'clock somewhere and will start our evening at 6pm.

We would love to meet you, hear about your amazing art/contribution and spoil you!

Pick me, pick me!

We will be mostly done by Sunday and I think you will enjoy our art project this year. Should be a blast.

Plus, it's already on my list to meet your camp. A nice dinner would be lovely!

:D

I'm a mutant vehicle artist, but I'm looking for a camp with a meal plan in place to get into, rather than a gifted meal Sunday night, although that would be lovely. Our camp, Spanky's Wine Bar, doesn't have a meal plan, but if you know of a camp that has a decent meal plan open to non campers who pay in, please PM me. Thanks.

Camp D.O.A. now has a full group of artists to feed on Sunday. Looking forward to it and being on the playa!

Magic scientist, we are not sure which camp might have a meal plan but wish you lots of luck! Thanks for sharing the fun video! See you on the playa!
