OK, a belated happy b-day to Le Chat Noir.
Yggy, get well soon. I found out you and I have one of the same friends at Interfuse this year. You know Kaalin from Gate & Perimeter. The big guy and I have worked that event for a while. I ranger as an Interranger, and Kaalin is the fire marshal. A couple of years back he was on the burn crew and they used ground effect fireworks at the base of the effigy. I was the guy responsible for giving him the OK that all the fire performers had cleared the effigy area. No injuries or mishaps even with one misfire, so we did our job right. We even remembered to close the fuel dump areas in metal containers so that nothing would get hit by hot flaming debris (though none travelled that far). It was an epic year at Interfuse, with pics of the rainbow over the effigy in my collection that also mirrored the double rainbow over the effigy at Burningman. I'd do anything for that big guy if he needed me,
This year's Interfuse was a good one. No injuries at the med tent (YAY!). Rangering went well with no incidents and smooth shifts. I took the Friday night 8-midnight back to back with a midnight to 4 a.m. shift. I did the same on Saturday. The radios worked well this year, and we had one new ranger who admitted he was into 'psytrance' music:
"Hey, Psycon (not his real name, the name has been changed to protect his identity), what's the difference between a raver and a hippy?"
"I dunno, what?"
"The hippy doesn't carry a glow stick on his necklace"
"I'll have you know I LIKE that music, and we're NOT ravers, we're psytrance music addicts"
"Ok then, you must be carrying TWO glow sticks....."
""AuggghhHHH!
I won't even mention his new tag of 'dubstep dimwit'.......
The snark flowed freely, the food was good (Show-Me Mike served up blueberry flavored kettle corn that was pretty great, and the chicken wings served by the Spice Pirates were phenomenal), and I had the chance to make new friends and renew old friendships. As one of the returning veteran rangers, I even got to get out and do a few solo walk-throughs just to gauge the camps. It was a quiet time I'll always treasure the memory of.
Now, back the fuck to work for a few months. See you all in the dust.
