I'd love to see California (or any other state) announce that the budget crisis forces us to, effective immediately, halt the persecution of peaceful, harmless pot smokers and spend the savings on education and other public necessities.

Oregon stopped prosecuting a whole bunch of misdemeanor crimes
earlier this year.
"In March, all appellate, tax and circuit courts plan to scale back to four
days a week. There's not enough money to pay for public defenders, so
the plan calls for at least a temporary halt in prosecuting misdemeanor
crimes such as shoplifting, burglaries and drug possessions. "
