Hi gang. Sorry, have not been in much of late. Don't have regular computer access.

Gimme the biggest damn drink you have. My new Grandson, Alexander, is in the hospital with a lung infection and I just want to cry.

wanders in.

wow, what a fire! I went right to the edge today.......got a call from a friend who needed to evacuate and had more trailers than trucks, so I threw in a couple of fire extinguishers, water and a chainsaw (in case I had to cut my way out) and headed down there......Luckily, didn't need any of the stuff, but as I was approaching his place, you could see roads being closed, people packing and staging to leave. The top of the smoke column is so high,it's white like a cloud from ice crystals.

I hope if we have anyone else in harms way, they sing out for help.

I heard the 30,000 ft too. They're referring to the pyrocirrus cloud forming from the fire.

Safe travels to anyone in or near the area.

We had a bit of rain here this morning, YG. Streets are wet and hopefully we'll get some more. Was hoping some rain came down in the fire areas as well. Would help some, but stuff is really dry. Wish we could divert some of that H20 that has drenched Arizona up to California.

BB, hope Alexander is doing better this morning. Congrats TTG on the job and on life. You too FJ on 8000. MDF enjoy your rest and Sadie your camping buddy. ((Doc))

Technically that phenomenon is known as a pyrocumulus cloud. Rather rare indeed. Heat can create its own weather, and though they rarely ever advance to a state of percipitation (i.e. raining), it is a sight to behold. From 50 miles away.

Hmph. Ever heard of Pinatubo, Krakatoa or Tambora? All three of these changed the weather worldwide. And in January of this year, we had Sinabung. Sinabung created its own weather on the ground from the heat it generated. Vortices formed as the result of a hot pyroclastic flow, and adding insult to injury, a series of tornadoes rolled down the mountain.

Yesterday's allegedly rainy forecast turned into perfectly clear skies and ideal temps - I felt like a sucker for bringing a jacket with me when I left the house. The fallout from the storm that hit Cabo earlier in the week that was due to give us some moisture apparently decided it wanted to go to Arizona instead. It turned out to be great weather for a visit with friends - Captain Goddammit and his first mate had a stop in SF on their way back from Hawaii. Elliot made it out too - I took them on a tour of the workshop place where I play with the high tech tools, and then we hit up the nearest pub, and capped the evening off by heading to the waterfront and checking out the Bay Lights as well as Soma - the Flaming Lotus Girls' playa art piece from 2009 that's been refit with LED's and installed on the Embarcadero (SF's waterfront promenade).

Fabulous visit to San Francisco yesterday. Thanks for the tour, Trilo!
Captain Goddammit & First Mate Miss Charlie say they will return to BRC next year. And Goddammit is considering adding a "flying bridge" -- an elevated observation deck -- to the Land Yacht.

Good Morning Bar! Haven't been here much but am catching up slowly. Congratulations BB on grand baby - I have you both in my thoughts.

Hope the fires are quelled soon Yggy - I don't think I have ever seen the Tahoe area so dry. It is alarming when the forest feels like a desert.
