But I am not going to lose my personality... if it looks like it's going that route, I'm gonna hit the road. It's just not worth going to BRC to be a part of, what amounts to a city within a city.Sensei wrote:If you're going to lose your 'identity', I can't think of a finer group than Wheeee!ville to lose it to... Seriously, this makes a ton of sense to Sensei.tonytohono wrote:... I think we should still keep our own camp's identity. Even if it is next door to, or even a part of, another village. What are the thoughts on this people?
I'll pull something else together that is more intimate. I would like to keep this relatively intimate myself, say less than 40 or 50 of us, hopefully of which we can have an idea as to who at least 50% of who is whom. I mean, how are we going to get 150 people plus our people on this totem pole. LOL! The totem on my arm is 12" long and there is nowhere near 190 characters on it. Hehe.
Anyway, I'm just making my opinion known. I'd like to give it a chance before we throw down with the first corporate offer that comes along.

Well I was going to bring it, you know, to the bar, as part of my contribution. But if you want to get some free stuff to bring to the bar then go for it. I'm in. Although I'm leary of the homemade stuff, if that's what it is, because wormwood is a pretty strong herb.

That is absolutely perfect, Giggle! Let us all know what you need to do that and we can all contribute!
... well, except for body parts.... Woodrow is staying right where he is, thank you....
(perhaps Wilson would prefer a separate sock totem pole? My socks demand recognition)
Otherwise, I am clueless. So, any ideas, I s'pose, pecking order lists (public or private), what have you....
I'm really only an imaginary artist, btw, so dont' expect anything except some jolly rotten garbage out of me.

E-playa being a part of and provided by the official Burning Man organization site an argument could be made for working in concert with the org. possibly in relation or proximity of the information center installation in center camp.
E-playa camp could also be a perfect place to base newbie indoctrination activities from. I can't remember who was spearheading that stuff or know if they would be interested but we're brainstorming here.
One of the positives things about trying to fit into that niche would be the possibility of being on the power grid. Potentially some funding to offset some of the expense. As a center point for the newbie indoctrination effort a close proximity to information where people can sign up to volunteer would be good. Last I heard they were only thinking about one or two special events of gathering newbies so it wouldn't necessarily take over the camp.
Another idea I had was "get a clue, give a clue" maybe a big MIXING bowl type of thing, with paper for veterans (jolly and disgruntled alike) to write their infinite wisdom upon to toss in the bowl; the poor clueless newbies can come and fish for their daily, hourly, minutely dose of much-needed direction....fortune cookie style, if you will......[/list]

handful of thoughtsd to put on the table...
i *love* the bowl-o-clues idea!!! of course we can expect it to include a few faux clues intended to mislead the occaisonal poor, unsuspecting newbie..
i am uncomfortable with the idea of 'pecking order' incorporated into the totem pole. jus sayin'
i think i prefer the idea of building this thing up on our own...though i can't justify not throwing in with an existing eplaya camp... dunno. need to sit on that one a while. part of the whole community bm thing is about exploring one's own personality within a whole...

Re: ~
Assuming for the moment that someone were to *gasp* use a still to properly make it, as long as this person used a 'true' recipe (like the 1855 Dick's Absynthe translated from a physician's desk reference), used the proper mash components (grapes or grain), double distilled it making sure to remove the slightly toxic 'head' and 'tail'- it would be safer than drinking commercial liquor (which generally contain the fusal 'oils' contained in the tail). The alpha-thujone content in the above 'Swiss' formula (the recipie is from the French, but the style is considered 'Swiss' from wormwood count) couldn't hurt you. If you drank enough, the alcohol would knock you out long before anything dangerous could happen (approx 180 proof).sparkletarte wrote:Well I was going to bring it, you know, to the bar, as part of my contribution. Not that anything like that would appear at the Eplaya camp or anything.

How about a totem lintel instead of a pole? =) Then all of you could be top row. I'm going to be thrown on my knees before it anyway, kissing some chicks feet so I don't need to actually be on it myself...tisha2 wrote:handful of thoughtsd to put on the table...

I think we are going to ride this one out and see how it plays out [thank you samtzu, your advice may save my ass many times over the coming months], but I think it would possibly be interesting to try it on our own. There is going to be a lot of intense sources of energy going on... I mean throw all of that into another lake of fire and it might get to be too much. We want this thing to be the ultimate in comfort... at least I do.tisha2 wrote: i think i prefer the idea of building this thing up on our own...though i can't justify not throwing in with an existing eplaya camp... dunno. need to sit on that one a while. part of the whole community bm thing is about exploring one's own personality within a whole...
There are some great suggestions a couple of pages back we should keep in mind also...
no, no...vertical totem sounds fine...jus sayin' that the assigning of pecking order seems weird - unless someone wants to volunteer to be on top...???

How about this... the first person to show up can go on top... or if that ruffles any feathers, you guys can alternate who is on top. Or if someone is real creative they can make some kind of a mechanical totem where it automatically alternates. Personally, it's moot in my opinion, although the totem is a great idea, I don't care where I am on it.
Like anything else, as long as I get some, I'm going to be happy.
We're in the brainstorming stage DVD, all ideas are welcome.

may i suggest something like 5 gallon plastic buckets for the totem pole, then you know they are all uniform and can be made separately before the event, and yet they will fit together because of their standard size.tonytohono wrote:How about this... the first person to show up can go on top... or if that ruffles any feathers, you guys can alternate who is on top. just a thought. standardization can reduce costs.

The 5 gallon bucket idea would also help to conserve space; they can be nested together for the trip down, and then built into a totem end-to-end... make sense??Simply Joel wrote:may i suggest something like 5 gallon plastic buckets for the totem pole, then you know they are all uniform and can be made separately before the event, and yet they will fit together because of their standard size.tonytohono wrote:How about this... the first person to show up can go on top... or if that ruffles any feathers, you guys can alternate who is on top. Idea. You place a couple of poles upright with a crossbar between them. Drill small holes in the bottom of the buckets that a rope can barely fit through. Measure off the rope so that you can tie knots in it so that the buckets are evenly spaced. Tie one end to the cross bar and one end stake into the ground. This way the totem poles are as long as the crossbar height, are firmly anchored and cannot fall over, and they make cool noises when the wind hits them.GuinivereElise wrote:The 5 gallon bucket idea would also help to conserve space; they can be nested together for the trip down, and then built into a totem end-to-end... make sense??Simply Joel wrote:may i suggest something like 5 gallon plastic buckets for the totem pole, then you know they are all uniform and can be made separately before the event, and yet they will fit together because of their standard size.tonytohono wrote: How about this... the first person to show up can go on top... or if that ruffles any feathers, you guys can alternate who is on top. I this may be low down on the pecking order (surely I'm not, and yet I third on the tossing of it), however:
Earlier I was wondering...
(If I can't have control over buying a house, at least I can think I have control over buying tickets...I really just need something to control at this point.)
And Rob, you sound like you know what you are talking about with the green, so I'll go with your recs.
Earlier I was wondering...
Anyone?Speaking of tickets, does anyone have advice for getting them? I remember hearing people saying the cheapest ones sell out within hours. I'll be ordering on-line, or I could do it by phone if that's a better way.
