I wonder if any of the surface water is good for growing anything and the soil too?
Also wonder how alkali the water is: I swam in Frog Pond and came out looking like a scaly fish.

Gotta say, that's pretty fucking cool! I wonder if they're going to make it more accessible to the public?

Also does this entitle BMOrg to water rights in the area?

I would imagine that every drop of water the flows from that ground is now theirs. From what I understand, this is where the water that they use to water the roads of BRC comes from...

Who was the previous owner and how did they come to acquire it?

They've been trying to buy Fly for a long time now. I guess they finally came up with enough to make the owner give in.

I thought that water came from Frog Pond?

No, they've been pulling it from Fly for a while now.
I hear showering in it is curative.

From the last Environmental Assessment:
Approximately six million gallons of water per year would be obtained from groundwater wells
at Fly Ranch to water approximately 55 miles of street and five miles of gate road on a daily basis
and all truck entry points and dunes within the City would be watered during event clean-up.

EDIT:
I just read the water quality test results. Probably a good idea to plug all orifices if you chase the water truck.

I thought that was sound advice anyway :-)

Very cool video.

Its probably the the most amazing accidental man-made art I've ever seen. Water? I thought you shut off the water...

Festival organizers announced today they’ve closed on a deal on Fly Ranch, a 3,800-acre property in Washoe County, Nevada, for $6.5m, half what owner Sam Jasick asked for a few years ago (he has since passed away, and his son Todd was more interested in closing the sale). At recent Burning Man festivals, organizers said they were taking potential investors on tours including well-known burners and technologists SpaceX founder Elon Musk, Google co-founder Sergey Brin, and Airbnb executive and Burning Man board member Chip Conley. None have confirmed involvement in the Fly Ranch deal.

I'm so glad to see this finally happened. It's been a twinkle in more than a few eyes of friends over the years, and the subject of many a late night/after-hours conversation.

Awesome video, Just_Joe!

Awesome Just Joe!
Fly Geyser is so odd and out of place looking that the video has a CGI feel to it.

Please forgive me if the information is apparent somewhere, does the purchase of Fly Ranch include Fly Geyser?

As to the comment on water rights, they would get whatever water rights are already allocated to the ranch with the purchase. Standard practice when buying ag land.

Just a friendly neighborhood reminder to people traveling through the area on their way to or from Burning Man, the Fly Ranch property will not be open or accessible to the public. Burning Man asks that in the interest of personal safety, environmental protection, and liability, please do not attempt to go to the Fly Ranch property.

Can I call dibs on being the official Florist of Fly Ranch?

I just wanna grow flowers... not just gloriously beautiful ones for visitors... But also the medicinal kind...

And more importantly, hemp... I'd Love to grow enough to feed, clothe and house everyone on this planet...

But we can start with the fine folks of Black Rock Nation...

And even though money does grow on trees... if I could provide for the Burning community without ever seeing another piece of currency in my life, I couldn't be happier. Decommodification is by far and away my favorite Principle.

You don't have to take this seriously, but I ain't jokin'.

I'll write a more eloquent proposition this summer...

The Burn Man grows chronic, he harvests all day,
But it's not just for work and it isn't for play!
