OK a low key event, but hale fellows well met.
I have been making the foods, freezing, shopping for deals. I just realized today it is a well documented feast preparation with some discussions about ingredients, fun so far. A feast for one freezer full of leftovers isn’t actually the holiday intended. Whatever. I’m not blowing past the ritual victuals.

Hi Elorrum. We are busy preparing for a hungry gaggle here. Everything on the table will be home made--except for pickles, olives etc. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, mainly because it's family, friends and no pressure for gift giving. Then the insanity starts. I hope your holidays all merry and bright.

HI Sham! Hi Elorrum!
yeah, Thanksgiving is nice in the "no presents, no expectations" thing! yay that.
I'm going to have thanksgiving pizza with my daughter up here in West Linn, Oregon. Drove the 560 miles today. Of course, I have a list of thing to fix, build, and adjust while here. I can't just sit on the couch.
Ha, my first chore was to fix the tv. Tried everything and nothing worked, so I went with my old stand by: Hit it!!
and, it came on!! haaha,. Even new fangled electronics respond to a swat (punch, kick, whatever).
I hope you all have a nice Thanksgiving. Happy we have this holiday.

Hello all, I'm sitting before a wood burning fireplace. It's actually carbon neutral because it is trees from the lot, but wood smoke is out here is judged as a pollutant. I'm also trying to finish stowing my 2023 burn stuff. To Mr Ygmir, you missed the weekly Tuesday Portland burner meetup and events on the book of face at faceb
k.c
m/groups/portlandburners. It's codename Woosday on Tuesday. Glad to meet up while you are here - PM.

HI SSE!! I hope you don't mind me abbreviating. it's sort of nicknaming on my part.
ah, didn't know about the meetup. well, maybe another time. thanks for the info, though. is there a good turn out?
wood fire, carbon neutral, and pollutant.......I can't...
The best to all, though today. Nice and chilly here in West Linn.

Sets record on turntable. Mahler’s 4th or 5th. A specific movement. I’ll look it up, and will be accurate. One of Marty’s favorites, he impressed it upon me. Oh dear, he was a real gem of a burner. Fair winds. Here’s to absent friends.

Mahler’s 5th symphony, 4th movement. Magic Marty gave me a ride to ygmir’s and the hof, and it was a marvelous drive. He loved his kids and was awful proud. I have some ceramic swag he fired with playa dust in the glaze.

Hi Elorrum. Yeah, Marty was proud of his kids, and, with good reason. Also, I know many of us were "family" to him, and he loved us, with a special fondness for those from the good old days of eplaya.
I'm just waiting for Jan. 2, I'm not really a "holiday" person.

Pours drinks for all,
Another holiday behind us, whew so glad. Those who knew marty, (wish I had) a toast for the chair left empty. May he find a new burningman or start one for us.
Hope your holidays were filled with joy, peace, and lots of memories.
I can tell by the posts, Marty was loved.

HI mmsj2u,
yeah, Marty was a peach. Just an all around good person.
Nice to have this holiday season winding down, get through the next week or so, and then get back at it.
We're still waiting for winter here, pretty lack luster so far, and we need a few big winters in a row to get out of the long term drought we've had. Had an epic winter last year, and a pretty good one the year before, so, still hoping...

Wheeee hooooo! Made it without totally destroying Christmas by just not being able to adapt quickly enough to people I haven’t seen in years. Gosh bless burners, how we hang out. My family is so difficult, silent, like a Dr.’s waiting room. Bring your phone, bring a quiet activity. But only a loser leaves THAT living room. Sit with your Christmas mug and eat chocolate.
So I think I’m ready for a new year. Thankful and Glad to see you held up tradition here, ygmir. I imagined Marty somewhere deep in the other side NEB, cocking an ear to Mahler.

yeah, glad they're over... the holidays.
I can only imagine what it's like with a big (ish?) family gathering. I've only done that once or twice in my whole life, and always with someone else's family (mine is small and not particularly "gatherers").
I'm glad, you're glad, for the tradition, here. I am too. Even though it's deserted, and perhaps has "jumped the shark", I have a deep connection here, mostly from the past and all the good times, and happy when good old friends, and new friends, pop in.
One hopes there is a place where Marty is indeed smiling. It's purely from my heart, since my brain more feels like "when it's over, it's over"......I hope my heart is right.

Hey all,
Pretty quiet these days. Hope everyone is doing fine.
For those keeping score at home, it appears that the $1500 FOMO tickets (as well as the $2500's and VP's) are still available 30 hours after the sale began. Last year the $1500's sold out immediately.
(I would have posted in the "Ticket" topic area, but I wasn't able to for some reason)

Re: Re: The 2025 Burning Man Bar is open
From what I've read here and there it seems like the slow FOMO sale is a combination of things. Apprehension caused by the weather the past two years, the availability of regular priced tickets showing up last August, and indeed, it's possible that the shark itself has been jumped, especially for the tourist minded/influencer attendees. Long-time veterans are inevitably aging out as well. I think we've see a bit of that right here on eplaya. There are only so many times that any of us can do this thing. Some more than others. It's a lot to take on, and perhaps at some point many get their fill of it. I'd also like to think that BMorg's attempt to crackdown on PnP's has had an affect too, since FOMO's were likely part of the PnP 'business plan', but that may be wishful thinking on my part. I'm guessing that the Steward Sale and Main Sale will provide additional insight as to where it all stands.
...and yes, a reset could be healthy for the event overall.
