Hope you did something more comforting for lunch.

daily cash, tons of paperwork, selling phones, helping with people's bills, taking shit from humanity in general who don't treat others with respect,
typical minimum wage shit...
me, however: I'm salary now. Manager. Basically, it just means that they don't pay me overtime now.

here's my thinking
the only way to justify (weakly) that battery of tests is if the position entails a great deal of responsibility.
if the position requires that level of responsibility the employess should be treated with respect and compensated on a level commensurate with that responsiblity. Is that so wrong?

Corporations are not made up of human individuals; they are made up of guidlines that maximize the profit of that corporation. Decisions are made by humans, but only in the intrest of the corporation... which is why I would like to see corporations collapse into the cesspool of their own rules and regulation. It's also the reason that service in most sectors is in the toilet these days...

Stuart: there's a part of me that understands their concerns: I have a hell of a lot of money in my store, both in equipment and in the drawer. There's a level of responsibility on that front. I also have access to peope's personal accounts, ssn, billing, etc.... it's a pretty high level of responsibility...
I hear you, though....

Small business can be even more dehumanizing I spent 5 years working for a family owned shop by the time I was given a Christmas bonus and laid off, I was suffering from a state I could only compare to battered wife syndrome, I was feeling like I really wasn't worth a shit and deserved to be abused.samtzu wrote:Corporations are not made up of human individuals; they are made up of guidlines that maximize the profit of that corporation. Getting ridden every day from the old man who's hobby was torturing employees until they quit so he wouldn't have to pay any more than the minimum or unemployment. the same day the old man came into the shop and strongly suggested I quite because I didn't have an aptitude for the work the son came out and gave me an unusually large raise because of the stellar work I'd been doing.
Usually you could only get a raise if you got married or got your wife pregnant.
Give me a corporation with employment rules any day.

Or, on the other hand, you can take my bar job in Malta, where my employer drove me home from work many nights, or we'd go buy fresh bread from the bakery at 3 in the morning.
The man was a drama queen, to be sure - which made it hell when he was quitting smoking - and the wages were shit (ok, so it's a second-world economy) but if he treated me like gold. Not the least of which was that if anyone bothered me to the point that i felt a need to tell him, they were kicked out of the bar for life.
