I know... after doing it at the last minute for years and years, I decided to start early this year. Good thing, too... found a huge tear in the tent - guess I get to try out the new sewing machine!!

To make it worse, he's the real burner. He would probably be happy to show up, plop down a tent, work like a maniac for the ESD, sleep when he's not working (one year someone put a DOA tag on his toe), eat MRE's, and then go home. I don't have the certs or the temperment for that so I'm trying to make costumes and gifts and plans and see the city. I've been 3 years and last year I SWORE would be my last if I didn't have enough fun and then we had to leave the playa early for his asthma so I feel I didn't give it enough chance and this year will be my last if it's not worth it to me and I'll pay for a rafting trip down the Colorado/Grand Canyon and go to the Accordion Festival in Cotati the weekend before the event and not fuss about all this crap!

The exotic tropical drink of the undersea set. No one knows how to make them, but with the magic of Tish's bar I can still get them here. If you make some on playa, I"ll try them. I think rum's involved.

Less than 100 days til departure. I am starting to brim with anticipation and fret with the projects I have to complete. Somehow I know things will come together just so.

So how are ya all doing today? It is lovely and sunny here. I have decided to quit smoking and am trying to wade through this feeling of necessity being denied. This just in time for my parents to arrive on Friday.

Accordian Festival?

(Sneaks peek around the place, to make sure Heli isn't in a corner somewhere!)

My brother lives in Rohnert Park and we go every year. Usually both days. Usually go bar-hopping between sets. Wikkid fun!! My Best friend and housemate is an accordianista, was trying to get her out to the playa but (dig this) she doesn't have a playa-proof accordian... If I can ever get hold of him, wanna talk to our local accordian guy about building one. (Maybe a dust valve in the bellows, and corrosion-proof reeds??)

Back to men and related foibles >giggles<...

One of the few good things about us was we were both kinda impulsive - if we wanted to go out and shoot Hiway 49 for a week, for example, or play tourist in tThe City over a weekend, we just went and did it. Unfortunately it wasn't enough to make up for all the stuff that ate up what we had (which wasn't much as I realied later)... Also... I tended to be more outgoing and, well, wild and crazy in my intrests, and my ex was, well... my ex- worked for a cop shop and anything that didn't fit within "socially acceptable normal guidelines" was out out out... I think that was where I realized you just can't change people. Things like going to BRC or to a Dead show or whatnot was considered *tabboo*... it was always "what if someone sees us?". I can't live like that... life's too short.
theCryptofishist wrote: I've been 3 years and last year I SWORE would be my last if I didn't have enough fun...
That was why I got out of doing RenFaire... it started out fun, and got to be a bummer. I actually started thinking of it as a job and obligation (and not a very fun one) and realized, Jeez, Sus, what are you doing this for?? Did it 6 years, and the last 2 ended up miserable. Like I said earlier, Life's too short!!

Sounds tasty... might just have to try one inna bit. We used to do this punch stuff called "Gumbah" that had various alcohols (vodka, 151, everclear, some other bouboun, and some kinda fruit schnapps) and wines combined with Rainbow Sherbet and (if I remember) 7-up... the secret was it had to sit out at room temp for 4 days before it was drinkable (something about secondary and tertiary fermentation) and served from a (clean) wastepaper basket - it was *guaranteed* to plant people on their butts. I've been thinking of making up a batch on the playa, just because...

Hey Jason..

Sunny and 70's here as well... Beautiful day to quit smokling. My boss is trying to do the same thing (on his doctor's orders) and isn't doing so good with it... How I do it is put off lighting the first one for a half hour, and increase it by a half hour, each day. When you can get through 2 days without, you've beat the physical part and it's just the addiction part that does you in... Has worked 3 times for me, problem is I get around people smoking and I get weak, and take that first drag... then it's all over.

Surprisingly, cigar smoke is the worst. Something about that distinktive aroma... an old BF, Pete, came back from South America one year with a few boxes of Cubanas... couple things came of it. One, I started smoking again, and 2, thise darn things were *good*! (I was just glad it was no longer tabu for us to smoke them, tho my great-aunt had done so for years...) Still have a few of those puppies...

Just remember, the longer you wait to light one, the more nicotine is flushed from your system, and in 2 days it's gone. Kewl, no?

Hello, hello, anyone home?

Well, set up the tent today that I got for my birthday. And it's a nice tent, it's big, 11 by 13 foot hexagon with a 5'8" height. But there maybe a problem if I want to bring it to burning man. There is the main tent and then it has a big rain cover. But, the tent just has screening on four of the sides. And while the rain tarp covers the screening there is still room for plenty of wind and air to come right in. So, now I'm thinking of options to create covers for the screening on the inside. But, what to do and how to attach covers? I think I'd like to put zippers around the screens and then sew together covers. I just don't know how to attach the zippers. I think the strongest way would be sewing them. But gluing would be much easier. I'm going to have to think on this for a while...

Hiya Blue.

Interesting sounding tent. Actually, there isn't any way to completely stop the dust. You're better to learn to live with it. You may be able to attach some cloth to the tent poles to cover the windows.

Can I get you a beer or something?
It's going to be alright.

I would just like to be able to cut down on the amount of dust that gets in the tent. The screening is probably 3 feet by 4 feet in a triangular shape and there are four screens. They're really pretty large and the space between the tent and cover is about an inch and a half. So, I'm thinking, that is just too much surface area open for venting. There is only an inch or so that the cover extends down beyond the netting. So, all the wind has to do is get between under the cover, which there is space to do.

Sorry I missed you Sput. I was distracted by something for a bit.

Blue, I would do the same thing I am going to do with my vents on my new tent. Sewing velcro around the vent and the corresponding vent cover so when the wind is howling we can seal it up pretty good. Last year we kept our clothes and stuff in big rubbermaid boxes. Not much of a sdust problem.

Hmmm, that might work. I'd have to look at the tent again. But that might not work. I think it might be easier to fix it from the inside. I'll have to sit in there tomorrow and brainstorm. Thanks for the advice though.

How's it going? Can I get you a beer? How's your tan?

I am sewing the velcro on the inside and using some ripstop nylon scraps to make the covers. Then there will be camo netting to shade the whole thing.
I got more drunk than tan yesterday.

I was thinking something like that. But if I'm going to sew anything I think I'd rather sew zippers onto it. It might just work.

Drunk can be good, and I bet you have a much better tan than I do at this point. I'm really going to try and get some sun before August. I'm practically translucent right now. It doesn't help that I act like a vampire either.

Good, as said above, I put up my new tent today. I like it, it needs a few improvements but overall it'll work.

Let see, then I got some of the rent's wash done and saw a friend for coffee. Had a really good dinner. Yea, it was a good day. Plus, I got up at noon as you know, which is really good because lately I've been sleeping until after 2.

You are rather pasty these days, have you developed a new dislike for garlic, mirrors, and silver ?

The tent sounds like it will be a good general use tent, are you experienced putting zippers in things?

Hmm that's a big no. I love garlic and silver, and have been told I look in the mirror whenever I pass one. Hmm, maybe I'm just a goul or witch or something. Or just a night owl.

As to the zippers thing, I wouldn't say that I'm "experienced". But I've always been good at sewing and good at figuring how to do things. Yea, I'll figure it out one way or another.

I only asked because my experience sewing zippers in cushions has made me a little leery of them. But it didn't help I wasn't used to the machine I was using.

I'm confident you'll come up with a good solution.

Well it time for me to wind down and head to bed,... you have a good night Blue.

Thanks!!

Good to be able to check in again. I still won’t be here as much as before, though. I just landed a couple of big jobs that will take me all the way up to when I head out west. That is a very good thing, but means I’ll be uber-busy with getting them done and getting ready for the trip.

And it was great to meet up with you, nipples and Z earlier in the month. And a happy late B-day to you, Ms. Blue... Here’s a Dark Night Porter for you...

And thank you again for the necklace. I bought some leather cord and made it sturdier. I've also gotten lots of compliments on it.

I don't know how much I'll be on here in the coming months as well. I have soo much to do now. Only 100 days or so to do everything!
