My question remains. Does the LLC listen to the participants' opinions on how Burning Man is run, what gets funded, etc, or do you have to be a part of the LLC for your opinion to be heard?

Dude, the part about aliens is total bullshit. Back in '89 (when I was in the Marines) Secretary of Defense Dickhead "Darth" Cheney cancelled several military programs and used the funds to build a secret train to haul MX missiles around in the desert. You can even look it up.

There were no aliens. Or, if there were, the trains ran them all over.

As to digging: a veteran of many burns told me that the reason we don't dig in the playa is because of the water table. Something like 6 feet down would spring the water table and the entire playa would flood before BRC could be abandoned. (I'm serious...he told me this.) And since a veteran Burner told me, it must be true!

No no no, when you start a rumor that is a complete fabriction it has to ring of truth, even when there is none. Everybody knows that Larry Harvey eats naked babies, not sushi.

Wow!!! Danger Ranger must really have to go sometimes! 2 square feet changed daily is enough for my cat...

The truth is that Danger Ranger is COLLECTING the Playa dust from all of the cars that leave BRC (carefully vaccuming it up from the road side and rest stops outside BRC after first determining which is native dust and which is foreign dust), then STORING it at his ranch until he can RETURN it the following year. Even if you consider the tires alone on cars, something like 30 cubic feet each year is LOST forever! (where are you BRR?). And one shudders to consider the epic volumes that are no doubt removed silently wrapped up in tarps and carpets (that is why these should always be burned on-site, to return the precious Playa) The fact that such a selfless crusade is occuring without it's due accolades is the REAL CRIME.

If you want to make Danger Ranger's job easier, put lawn & leaf bags around your car tires before entering BRC (use the contractor's type, they usually will last more than one season at BM). To really make an impact, wrap your entire vehicle in plastic before you arrive.

But that doesn't take into account all the playa dust which is on your *body* when you leave, thence to be washed off and lost forever... Not to mention the "black boogers" tha accumulate in the nose, the BLM phlem you cough up, etc...

So add to that, don't just wrap your whole car, but your whole body, in plastic before you get there.

Somewhere in the deep recesses of the internet, someone is dreaming of pliya serpents created from all that excess dust and how he could practice those Dukes of Hazzard style jumps off them with a Dodge Neon...since the new Chargers don't have enough power to launch with. Go Mopar!

As am I Crypto.

But you know what's not silly? The over $18,000 that the BMorg and staff gave to the GW Bush reelection campaign. It was shocking, it was wrong, and it's our money that financed that contribution.
I completely agree.

I'm just as disturbed about these reports that Danger Ranger is collecting playa dust. What could he possibly be doing? Is it sinister?

Maybe hes' going to set up a simultanious event that will only be open to burning elites and their paid minions. Or maybe he's gonna use it to desicate teh corpses of event foes who cross him too many times. (WSPR watch out!)
But I believe he's using it in a darwinian golf cart breeding project--trying to come up with a one that will stand up to the playa.

Damn you Moisturepup.

It's a lie.

And here I was hoping that Air Force One would be flying over the playa, dispensing plastic turkey to all

With god as my witness, I thought plastic turkeys could....what? What do you mean I'm going on too much? The joke's stale? Which part?

Don't look at me like that.

If you're going to critique, them critique, don't glare at me when I ask what's wrong.

What? What do you mean everyone's looking at...oh

Thank you and we now return you to your regularly scheduled e-playa, already in progress.....

Oh come on, everyone knows that those plastic turkeys smoothly glide down the air currents. It's a combination of that orange juicer shape and the hot air in the middle that let's them come down easy.

I think most burners would find this patently offensive. Is this where all that extra money is going?

Even if it was totally true what business is it of ours anyway? I'm a Democrat and I've donated to Republicans....I consider it an effective way to get my voice heard or to support an individual who bucks the party and puts local issues ahead of party ones. (It's also a shrewd business move in certain circles). I don't see what all the fuss is about either way.

The real question of the day (#1) is...

Who really cares? Is it any of your business who goves what money to whom?

Of course, #2 is...

Why did this silly thread get regurgitated? Yuck!

On occassion it's fun to remind people that just because somebody lists a source doesn't mean that source actually supports what they were saying. It is up to the reader to check before the believe it. That said...

I read that Larry Harvey sold Burning Man to Pepsi last week and that the temple will be replaced with a new center stage for Britney Spears to make a video at the event this year, there will be a giant Pepsi billobard behind the stage. http://burningman.tribe.net/thread/9e72 ... c4b3f5fd6c

It depends bro.

How fucking far down the rabbit hole do you wanna go????

Nothing ever seems what it seems like.....
I'm just tired of hearing that "they" know what they're doing. Are we they or are just them they or are we AND them they which would actually make them us? My head hurts now.
Then take an aspirin.

Who are "we"? All participants on ePlaya, everybody who's ever been to BRC, what? How do you confirm claims of membership? Do we follow the one participant-one vote system, try to assign weights based on how many times one has attended, or do we just listen most closely to whoever is screaming the most loudly?

"Member of the Burning Man LLC" is a well-defined concept. "Burner" really isn't. A vaguely defined polling of a vaguely defined electorate doesn't sound like a recipe for good management to me.
