One of the things that zealots do is to attempt to make you feel bad if you don't worship their god. The more liberal zealots attempt to make you feel bad if you don't worship a god that bears a passing resemblence to their god.

This attitude assumes that god wants to be worshipped. Why should an omnipotent and omniscient being desire worship? Fuck if I know, maybe it's just supposed to be good for us.

What is less often considered, however, is the possibility that god does NOT want to be worshipped, and finds it annoying as all hell. Maybe a god that truly wants us to be independent thinkers might be disappointed that we are not doing so.

So now imagine a punitive god that wants us to be independent. The worshippers get punished (possibly for all eternity) and the free thinkers get rewarded (no I don't want a virgin, I'll take that happy slut over there, thank you).

I refuse to believe in a large universe and a small god.

Sorry but anytime I see, hear or read an opening line like that I usually - usually - associate it with someone ready to to fire up the inevitable Argument Machine(TM) in which no quarter is granted and all beliefs are defended.

Usually - usually - it results in the word 'nazi' ultimately being tossed out there into the electronic ether towards anyone who doesn't believe. I think I'll pass on that marlin hook of a question.

For the record I'll state that I don't believe because it relieves me of the feeling that someone else is in the dimly lit room is watching me with invisible glowing eyes while scratching notes in the 'bad' column of his little Naughty or Nice notepad while I jerk off.
