I worked in nuke plants for about 8 years. So it was interesting to see the videos if that tower coming down. Thanks.

No..like I said, I was turning on my espresso machine......

Actually "they" closed all roads and river traffic for 5 miles......probably not for safety, but to avoid a "spectacle of massive proportions" like tra-fuck jams.

2 years to build,, 8 seconds to destroy

And even more stupid, in 5 - 10 years we are going to have to build more nuke plants..........

Have you seen movie"China Syndrome"? The control room is a replica of the one @Trojan........but then, so is the one on "The Simpsons"..I guess if Homer Simpson ran it, it is no wonder it neeeded to come down..
Homer Simpson is quite popular with Radition Health Physics techs and Reactor Operators.

There is a better way than building more power plants though. Both Nuclear and fossil fuel plants. For about the price of a new car a house can be fitted with windmils and solar cells/batteries. This would eliminat the need for centralized power plants. Of course big money and big govenment (who are always in bed together) will never let that happen.

solar is good.......butt, big butt....when we need the energy, it is overcast, so low output. Also take a HUGE amount of energy to grow the crystals for the panels, plus the nasty nasty chemicals.......AND then there is the battery banks, lead, acid, or other horrible shit..

ok....enuff negative, now positive...we have solar at EspressoCamp for day fans, and night blacklight in our dome.

and if an inverter...AC/DC...?

You are right. I do not know enough about solar cell technology to know how viable it is. But if the cells, once made, can be used forever, allowing for normal maintenance, wouldn't that be a good thing?. Windmills seem simple enough and really anyone cold make one.

With the solar and wind it is a great idea, but as stated above, lots of issues. My home is partially solar powered, I collect heat and store it in water, but in my environment, going totally off grid is very difficult unless you consider a personal generator off grid. In my opinion, personal generators still use fossil fuels and the exhaust is worse than a normal power plant, os I do not consider that a viable option.

I believe wave generation should be the source of our power development. With all the power in the ocean, use waves to generate electricty for housing, and also to break the hydrogen and oxygen apart for hydrogen powered vehicles. It would be a much cleaner place to live, but the oil companies won't let it happen until that last well runs dry.

Well, I agree and wave generation is a good idea. But on a large scale you run into big money. You are just changing one master for another. The idea is to be self sufficient. Then you will not be under the thumb of big money. The U.S. was stongest when it was a nation of individuals taking care of their own needs.

Oh boy, this is my kind of discussion!! I am having much fun during the drywall breaks!!

Points well taken, but I will trade a non-polluting master for a polluting master any day.

FYI, if you are thinking about solar electric or wind generation, do not ignore the grid. Most states now have co-generation laws in place so small users can put power back on the grid and run their meter backwards. If you provide more power than you use, you actually are required to get paid for it. Other than protecting against total power failures, this is a great option as you use the grid for your batteries, and eliminate that storage maintenance problem in addition to not having to deal with the toxic crap.

Since the technical discussion did not go over too well, and since this appears to be a pretty open-minded forum, I will try a little technical humor.

Three engineers were sitting at the bar having drinks and discussing some pretty technical projects. The bar was very quiet and the bartender could not help but overhear this boring conversation. They ordered another round and when the bartender delivered them he decided to have some fun.

Bartender: Say guys, I was wondering if you could answer a question for me, if God were an engineer, just what kind of engineer would he be?

First eng: He would have to be an electrical engineer. Just look at the brain, such a massive computer that controls all the bodily functions 24/7.

Second eng: No, he would have to be a mechanical engineer. Just look at the hand, all those moving parts working smoothly together, handling both heavy and delicate tasks.

Third eng: You are both wrong, he would have to be a civil engineer. Who else would put a toxic waste dump right in the middle of a play area.
