are you part of a theme camp?
did you mark bounderies? we mark our theme camp bounderies with a combination of parked cars and a string of banners. there is one way in and 1 way out. so cutting through is harder.
even so there were people who would walk right through. I never worried too much or spent much time bothering them. Sure i could stop and berate every one of them but why bother? For the most part they are simply trying to get somewhere.
no biggie..

Yes we are.

We did this...people cut through anyway.

I suppose that's one way to look at it, but after having two bicycles and a visitors camera stolen we stopped being so blase about the whole thing. It was a matter of security, and, as both DogBoy and myself have said, safety. Cutting thru many of the theme camps (ours included) can be extremely dangerous. Not to mention after the incidents of theft people who cut thru and did not say hello were regarded with some suspiscion.
More than anything it's just plain rude to walk through someones living space without saying hello.

Well it is to me.

Maze camp
I agree that brc is not the default world, and I also agree that cutting through public areas is not a big deal -- but going into an area that is clearly closed is not only rude, it's dangerous. I had people walk ON TOP OF a pile of mylar for crying out loud!
I have a great solution: Maze camp -- a network of "short cuts," secret passages, and fake "closed areas" to beguile, bewilder and provide a quick route to the porta-potties.

Another possiblity: Put up a solid wall of graffitied veneer with a tiny, poorly light entrance, like a Lower East Side bar in NYC -- and then have a contingent of junkies and homeless people meet any visitors... Real ones!

I just keep thinking of a herd of those motion detector frogs, all croaking at once.
I think "roads" are a lot less natural than paths to us, and we switch to the unconcious default at BRC. Ever been to one of those cities or villages in Europe (or I suppose South America or Asia or Africa) or even New England where the original roads are former cowpaths?
Was it Eisenhower who when the President of a collage/university changed the paths over the quad to be where the students wore down the grass, rather than the sidewalks provided?
It wasn't until the city came down and I could see the distance that I realized that the advice I'd been giving all week on getting to the port'o'potties "Go one block up to Dogma and then one block in either direction to the half hour" was bad and should have been "Go one block over on Creed to the half hour and then one block out to Dogma." Amazing how the distance added up on only one block.
These planned communities never (facitious) work. Look at Brazilia. Who knows what Celebration will come to in a few years.

Wascally wavers
I have talked for some years about making a raver trap- A big box with a stick holding it up (Elmer Fudd/Bugs Bunny style) with a sign pointing in saying "Free Glow Sticks!" Catch em, tag em, transport them to another part of the playa.

Why limit yourself to the playa? There must be plenty of enviroments that could swallow that invasive species. There's a ranch outside Crawford Texas where they might find some friends.DogBoy wrote: raver trap-....... Catch em, tag em, transport them to another part of the playa.

That is one of the funniest things I've heard on the eplaya. If you don't make one, I just might.DogBoy wrote:..raver trap..

My favorite was still the year we went drift-netting for trippers. Take a 18' x 18' fish net & stick glow sticks in it. Put a person on each corner, & walk down the esplanade offer free glow sticks if you can grab them. Any fish foolish enough to try...
Weird thing was we came back with more glow sticks than we left camp with, & a cowboy hat to boot.

I have a great idea; TRAFFIC HAZARD CAMP!!! No one will come running through your camp because noone but you will know the safe routes through it!
The entire camp is designed around 'men at work', and other road signs. Mostly prank signs. My favourite street sign is the one that reads: Orange Cones mean Men at Work. I'm going to change that one to read: Orange Cones mean Psycadelic Witches Embedded in Asphalt.
Any other ideas?

signs
In NM people put ufo's over the cattle in cattle crossing signs. You could make one with a ufo over a human crossing sign too.
Y. Depraved you ask? Cause I can never get too much love or enough of Burning Man.
Or I could just build an alien-crossing sign.
And a Slow Men at Work sign would be perfect. Just set up a pothole with a sign stating that it's due to be repaired on July 13, 7435. Talk about Slow Men!

Uh huh. I had two disassembled bicycles and a full roll of barbed wire, and
people still tried to go between my tent and the next one over.
You'd need full-time traffic patrol.
And I wouldn't mind the thru-traffic so much, it's the fucktards who decide
my front porch or my coolers are theirs for the taking that piss me off.
Oh, and the reason I had a full roll of barbed wire at my disposal was
because the Rangers decided it was a community hazard to have it
surrounding our camp.

I used a dolly and rebar for my hippie trap. It worked pretty well after the first night of "Ow, shit!" exclamations.precipitate wrote:Uh huh. I had two disassembled bicycles and a full roll of barbed wire, and people still tried to go between my tent and the next one over.

Are you sure we can't shoot people for that? I think of it as B&E and burglary and treat the fuckwits appropriately.precipitate wrote:And I wouldn't mind the thru-traffic so much, it's the fucktards who decide my front porch or my coolers are theirs for the taking that piss me off.
That and I'm trying to come up with an excuse to get the new S&W .50 magnum...

A-Maze-ing
How about putting up mazes of sail cloth so that when people try to pass thru your camp they get lost in all the dead ends and get so upset they follow their trail of bread crumbs back out of your maze vowing never to try passing thru your camp again. Then again you could have traps and paintball markers that blast the intruders with a full auto burst of some funky colored paint.
