Communes in Europe in the Middle Ages were sworn allegiances
of mutual defense (both physical defense and of traditional freedoms)
among community members of a town or city.
The classical Latin communio means an association. In some cases the
classical Latin commune was used to mean people with a common
interest. Ultimately, the roots are cum (with or together) + munire (to
wall), literally 'to wall together' (i.e., a shared fortification). More
frequently the Low Latin communia was used from which the Romance
commune was derived. When independence of rule was won through
violent uprising and overthrow, they were often called conspiratio.
...the struggle to establish their liberties, the freedom to conduct and
regulate their own affairs and security from arbitrary taxation and
harassment from the bishop, abbot or count in whose jurisdiction these
obscure and ignoble social outsiders lay, was a long process of struggling
to obtain charters that guaranteed such basics as the right to hold a
market. Such charters were often purchased at exorbitant rates, or
granted, not by the local power, which was naturally jealous of
prerogatives, but by the king or the emperor, who came thereby to hope
to enlist the towns as allies in the struggle to centralize power that was
arising in tandem with the rise of the communes. "The burghers of the tenth and eleventh centuries were ruthlessly harassed, blackmailed,
subjected to oppressive taxes and humiliated. This drove the bourgeois
back upon their own resources, and it accounts for the intensely corporate
and excessively organized character of medieval cities."
(Cantor 1993 p 231)

On February 29, 1880, a sister, Grace Mary Elizabeth, was born but lived
only five hours. Crowley was taken to see the body and in his own words
(using the third person):

"The incident made a curious impression on him. He did not see why he
should be disturbed so uselessly. He couldn't do any good; the child was
dead; it was none of his business. This attitude continued through his life.
He has never attended any funeral but that of his father, which he did not
mind doing, as he felt himself to be the real centre of interest."

"The Church of England [...] had seemed a narrow tyranny, as detestable
as that of the Plymouth Brethren; less logical and more hypocritical."

"when I discovered that chapel was compulsory I immediately struck
back. The junior dean halled me for not attending chapel, which I was
certainly not going to do, because it involved early rising. I excused
myself on the ground that I had been brought up among the Plymouth
Brethren. The dean asked me to come and see him occasionally and
discuss the matter, and I had the astonishing impudence to write to him
that "The seed planted by my father, watered by my mother's tears,
would prove too hardy a growth to be uprooted even by his eloquence
and learning"."

Several decades after Crowley's participation in the Golden Dawn,
Mathers claimed copyright protection over a particular ritual and sued
Crowley for infringement after Crowley's public display of the ritual. While
the public trial continued, both Mathers and Crowley claimed to call forth
armies of demons and angels to fight on behalf of their summoner. Both
also developed and carried complex Seal of Solomon amulets and
talismans.

it's not a condemnation orr deification

it's a glance at what's in play,
and the sources defining/coalescing into effort,
which may be re/misinterpreted with mind

The natural environment, commonly referred to simply as the
environment, is a term that comprises all living and non-living things that
occur naturally on Earth or some part of it
Mysticism is a belief in the existence of a greater reality or realities which, typically
1) is beyond perceptual or intellectual apprehension,
2) is not only more true than 'ordinary reality',
but also a necessity to understand in order to understand this world, and
3) is directly accessible by subjective experience,
(which may be also involve practice or training).

Evolutionary psychology (abbreviated ev-psych or EP)
is a theoretical approach to psychology that attempts to explain mental and psychological traits
—such as memory, perception, or language—
as adaptations, i.e., as the functional products of natural selection.
The purpose of this approach is to bring an adaptationist way of thinking
about biological mechanisms
such as the immune system
into the field of psychology,
and to approach psychological mechanisms in a similar way.
In short, evolutionary psychology
is focused on how evolution has shaped the mind and behavior.
In biostatistics or psychological statistics, a research subject
is any object or phenomenon that is observed for purposes of research.
Objectivity in science is the property of scientific measurement that can
be tested independent from the individual scientist (the subject) who
proposes them.

Shunning is usually approved of (if sometimes with regret) by the group
engaging in the shunning, and usually highly disapproved-of by the target
of the shunning. This certainly results in a polarization of views. Those
subject to the practice respond differently, usually depending both on the
circumstances of the event, and the nature of the practices being applied.
However, more extreme forms of shunning have caused substantial
damage to individuals' psychological and relational health.

Disruption of established relationships certainly causes pain, which is at
least an unintended consequence of the practices described here, though
it may also in many cases be an intended, coercive consequence. This
pain, especially when seen as unjustly inflicted, can have secondary
general psychological effects on self-worth and self-confidence, trust and
trustworthiness, and can, as with other types of trauma, impair
psychological function.

This can be especially damaging if perceptions are attacked or controlled,
or various tools of psychological pressure applied. Extremes of this cross
over the line into psychological torture and can be permanently scarring.

The effect of shunning can be very dramatic or even devastating on the
shunnee, as it can damage or destroy the shunned member's closest
familial, spousal, social, emotional, and economic bonds.

Psychological torture is less well known than physical torture and tends to
be subtle and much easier to conceal. In practice the distinction between
physical and psychological torture often blurred. Physical torture is the
inflicting of severe pain or suffering on a person. In contrast,
psychological torture is directed at the psyche with calculated violations of
psychological needs, along with deep damage to psychological structures
and the breakage of beliefs underpinning normal sanity.

It is naively assumed that the fact that the majority of people
share certain ideas or feelings proves the validity of these ideas and
feelings. Nothing is further from the truth... Just as there is a 'Folie à
deux' there is a 'folie à millions.' The fact that millions of people share the
same vices does not make these vices virtues, the fact that they share so
many errors does not make the errors to be truths, and the fact that
millions of people share the same form of mental pathology does not
make these people sane. (in: Fromm, The Sane Society, Routledge, 1955,
pp.14-15)

The term 'pairwise mutually exclusive' always means
no two of them can both be true.

Further, Ayn Rand discusses rational self-interest in which one's
happiness, in limited circumstances, can be enhanced by helping others; a
related term is enlightened self-interest.

Shall any one teach God knowledge, who judgeth those that are high?

One man dieth strong, and hale, rich and happy.

His bowels are full of fat, and his bones are moistened with marrow.

But another dieth in bitterness of soul without any riches:

And yet they shall sleep together in the dust, and worms shall cover them.

Surely I know your thoughts, and your unjust judgments against me.
The Zoot Suit Riots were a series of riots that erupted in Los Angeles,
California during World War II, between sailors and soldiers stationed in
the city and Mexican American youths, who were recognizable by the
flamboyant zoot suits they favored.
And when I turned myself to all the works which my hands had wrought,
and to the labours wherein I had laboured in vain, I saw in all things
vanity, and vexation of mind, and that nothing was lasting under the sun.

The poor man is glorified by his discipline and fear: and there is a man
that is honoured for his wealth.

But he that is glorified in poverty, how much more in wealth? and he that
is glorified in wealth, let him fear poverty.
The riots began in the racially charged atmosphere of Los Angeles, amidst
a period of rising gang violence perpetrated by zoot suiters. In October
1942, zoot suiters were charged with killing Jose Diaz in a supposed gang
brawl at the Sleepy Lagoon reservoir (leading to a now-infamous court
trial whose convictions were later overturned), in May they rioted against
police shutting down an illegal gambling operation, sailors claim that zoot
suiters stabbed a sailor. Sensationalized accounts of criminal zoot suiters
(pachucos) menacing local citizens were featured on the front pages of
many newspapers.
You that are separated unto the evil day: and that approach to the throne
of iniquity;

You that sleep upon beds of ivory, and are wanton on your couches: that
eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the herd;

And I am angry with a great anger with the wealthy nations: for I was
angry a little, but they helped forward the evil.
On May 31st, 1943, a group of sailors on leave confronted a gang of zoot
suiters; one sailor, Joe Dacy Coleman, was badly injured. In response,
fifty sailors gathered and headed out to downtown and East Los Angeles,
which was the center of the Mexican community. Once there, they
attacked all the men they found wearing zoot suits, often ripping off the
suits and burning them in the streets. They also raped pachuca women in
the process.
Whilst the wicked man is proud, the poor is set on fire: they are caught in
the counsels which they devise.
In many instances, the police intervened by arresting Mexican-American
youths for disturbing the peace, leaving the sailors to the military justice
system. African Americans and Filipino Americans suffered the same fate
as Mexican Americans. Several hundred pachucos and nine sailors were
arrested as a result of the fighting that occurred over the next few days.

Of the nine sailors that were arrested, eight were released with no
charges and one had to pay a small fine. Military authorities intervened on
June 7, by declaring that Los Angeles would henceforth be off-limits to all
military personnel.
With the holy one thou wilt be holy: and with the valiant perfect.

With the elect thou wilt be elect: and with the perverse thou wilt be perverted.

And the poor people thou wilt save: and with thy eyes thou wilt humble the haughty.

their attempts to guilt and shame
seem to lead to this as the most honorable:
Inedia is the alleged ability to live without food. Breatharianism is a
related concept, in which believers claim food and possibly water are not
necessary, and that humans can be sustained solely by prana (the vital
life force in Hinduism), or according to some, by the energy in sunlight.
The terms breatharianism or inedia may also refer to this philosophy
practiced as a lifestyle in place of the usual diet. While it is often seen as
an esoteric practice performed by eastern ascetics, recently some groups
such as the Breatharian Institute of America have promoted the practice
as an option for anybody, once the proper techniques for accessing it are
made known.

Current scientific theories about nutrition and generally accepted common
sense both indicate that a person who follows this practice in the long
term would die of starvation or dehydration.

Folie imposée is where a dominant person (known as
the 'primary', 'inducer' or 'principal') initially forms a delusional belief
during a psychotic episode and imposes it on another person or persons
(known as the 'secondary', 'acceptor' or 'associate') with the assumption
that the secondary person might not have become deluded if left to their
own devices. If the parties are admitted to hospital separately then the
delusions in the person with the induced beliefs usually resolve without
the need of medication.

Folie simultanée describes the situation where two people, considered to
independently suffer from psychosis, influence the content of each other's
delusions so they become identical or strikingly similar.
Folie à deux and its more populous cousins are in many ways a
psychiatric curiosity.

The current Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders states
that a person cannot be diagnosed as being delusional if the belief in
question is one "ordinarily accepted by other members of the person's
culture or subculture"

When a large number of people may come to believe obviously false and
potentially distressing things based purely on hearsay, these beliefs are
not considered to be clinical delusions by the psychiatric profession and
are labelled instead as mass hysteria.
sexistic relic:

The term originates with the Greek medical term, hysterikos. This
referred to a medical condition, thought to be particular to women, caused
by disturbances of the uterus, hystera in Greek.

'mass hysteria' is misleading terminology.

'Folie à ____' is much more accurate.
