It's a test. are you a real burner or are you a wanna-be..
Do you know how to fold, spindle, and mutalate it into something of your very own?

The more I think the more twisted it gets. I can hardly wait.

I see a lot of dusty virgins who have learned nothing of the playa yet.

First:
whinge intr.v.
whinged, whing·ing, whing·es
Chiefly British. To complain or protest, especially in an annoying or persistent manner.

Then:
Imagine. Someone gives you a concept to play with and mold in any fashion you wish. You have the power to develop, destroy, mutate, or ignore this concept. Everyone else is given the same opportunity. It is in many ways a doorway to anywhere that you have been invited to step through. It seems trite to bitch about such an opportunity because one disagrees to the initial placement of this doorway.

Am I an american? Yep. Could I appreciate a 1/10 scale model of the statue of liberty made out of bone and excrement. Yep. Though not as ancient as the lands of old queens, I would say that the us'ov'a provides more than enough grist for the artmill. I have chosen to prioritize more local events next year and so will (w/95% probability) be skipping BRC to go to Nowhere, but I still am very confident that there will be some spectacular and provocative art that comes out of this theme.

Or perhaps we should all just go back to the good old days when art was not controversial. Or maybe the theme should just be, "Shut up and art", or "Free Art Zone" where all of the art has to be placed in a chicken-wire enclosure...no scratch that last one, that is just an installation...to bad that would not fit into next year's theme...

Ooooooooooooo but think of the pretty FIREWORKS THIS TIME!!!

Post by Alchemy » Mon Oct 01, 2007 11:41 am

I wanted to barf too when i saw the apparantly cheezy theme..but then
GOD DAMN IT!!
If you dont PARTICIPATE and make a difference you are takng a spectator like approach to BM..
Oooh-this theme is shallow and un creative..
WHAT?
I started mulling over this craptastic condemnation upon my exudus..alone in my dust drenched vehicle..no stereo..
Then I remembered my American Dreams..

It was not about what someone sold me...
or what some one insisted was the American Dream...
It was about diggin into my feelings for what I valued for a future..

where I came from
What visions I floated in and out thru :
of a world made just a little better thru our liberties to create such..
What it meant to fight for them ..nomater where or how complicated..
What values the settlers felt were important enough to take risks for in creating a new community in the face of corruption and adversity..
What values I fight for and cry out for..
what is freedom and
what I wanna be some day
How I wanna make a difference
Where I draw the line in the sand..
what patriotism means to me..
its living bravely
its speakin up
its using your rights
fightin for them
and getting back to the important things matters of
spirit
matters of truth
matters of hearth

Remember freedom.
Of corse you can predict it to be some shitty turn out of shmaltzy ass kissing self importance shat from the ass of the LLC.. no doubt.geared to turn the heads of the main stream
Guess perhaps that what will occur will in variably be Some sad testament to the former days of historic Rebelious spirited anarchy inacted flagrantly by those who are characterised by left of center
thinkers..blowing off the norm and..coming together to form a crazy hedonistic whirl pool of art-inspired lifestyle..outta which spawned a global frenzy eagar to taste that experiance built souly on freedom of expression and participating in evolving culture..
What was the theme then?
It was going to Burningman...
it was BURNIN SHIT..making shit..pushing limits to the edge
HEY!! it still IS!!

Burningman has been a visible brave frontier of your
personal Liberties..
it fights for your rights,to live free like crazy bastards...
to worship and gather and share ideas and make..
change.
Its being GOD_DAMNED PATRIOTIC!!
while you have been participating in this event you have inspired thousands to follow and pursue altho some dont even know how anymore ( but we must show them)how to experiance alternative thought...and practice unconventional living in the spirit of what?
FUCKING FREEDOM!!
do not take BM for granted..
GO TO THE EVENT and use what has been
produced for you outta the sweat and blood -brain cells and
sacrifice of those before you...
What is it all for?

Now here you have..a very visible event and a generational culture of GLOBAL proportions..
It offers you (as does America) financial assistance to develope your (self)-expression
..given you a tremendous Platform on which to boldly burn brightly so that others may be inspired..Thru the attention of the media..THE WHOLE WORLD IS WATCHING
keys to the city ..you can change the world..

You have been told you can be ANYTHING you want to be when you grow up..
You have a say in how your world will be...and make a difference-
your dreams can come true..
The AMERICAN RIGHT

You gonna give up now? this is NOT the time to complain about "Waaaaaaa Burningman is dead..."
" Its all yucky and lame now..."
" The Theme is too pathetic..."
Freedom aint free..

Maybe if .your the kinda burner who thinks that going to the burn means a staple of edgy experiances.
No.
Youve lived that out...but now its not about sucking off the good time tit of The Man..
its taking a fucking risk and using this GIANORMOUS opportunity
to do something very visible and brave..
Define HOW TO LIVE AS AN AMERICAN by sharing your vision
You are an AMERICAN
what is your dream life?
America and Burningman are oppurtunities to
show the world who you are-and how to live free!

Be a sheppard
not a sheep
its not a party
Its a revival of
Revolution
our weapon is joy and beauty-
humor and FIRE!

Im making shit
im burning flags
Im pooninfg noobs
and FUCKING your burn...
Gonna teach the world about My America..
I wanted to be an Artist and change the world..
learning to spell is for the next life.
America might piss you off but thats only if you arent living the Dream
so start..
or stay home and let the big boys show you how
you can watch it all on Burncast..
got fire?

This year the art was too watered down and diluted by the onslaught of non-participants, and there was so much less architectural art. Now a contemplation of what it means to be patriotic? The RV folks will love it, I'm sure.
A theme is just a theme, contained into somenthing bigger as diversity of human beings and thoughts and skills, why does your imagination end into the main meaning of a word, instead of to what this word may be related to all the rest, also with the infinite nothing..? Ps. I definitely LOVE RVs!

All you assholes posting the crying baby pictures are stupid as fuck. Get the fuck off eplaya if your not going to keep just a little tiny bit of the burning man spirit on these posts. Somebody not going because of this generic theme in 08 has all my support in the world for taking that stand in protest. I HATE this theme more than anything. Infact I'd reather have the theme be "nazi germany" or "lets kill some fags". Maybe that would get all of you people who dont care about this theme to give a shit. Go ahead and post a baby crying below me, Im looking forward to it!

What the fuck? Whining like a baby is burningman spirit now? Fuck off. Farting in the general direction of people who think they know everything and things should always be there way is the burningman spirit to me. Who the fuck do you think you are that you get to dictate what the theme is? I'd rather your handle on this page be KKK or Adolf! Change your fucking nick name! I'm sick of people thinking they are entitled to a theme they like or for others to do things for them. Go do something yourself and stop worrying about what others do. YOU are what ruins the burn and the spirit for most people.

Alchemy,

I've appreciated everything you've written so far. You're posts actually give me a lot to think about and I'm finding them very constructive.

But you wrote one phrase that stuck out to me, perhaps it was even a typo... but with those simple words you took a cloth and wiped away a little fog from my mental windshield allowing me to understand a little bit more clearly my desire to create an art piece for 2007 (and to keep allowing it to evolve for 2008).

It wasn’t so much what you wrote, as what it unlocked when I read it. And maybe nobody else will care or understand, but be it intentional or typo, this spoke volumes to me:

"matters of hearth"

Nice turn of phrase... Thanks.

So are we take this entry as the example we are to follow of retaining some of that "Bunring Man spirit"?

This is an online bulletin board service. It doesn't have to mirror the on-playa experience nor should it. And the way this board operates is set by the community at large and it's been that way for almost a decade now, not by one or three loud mouthed posters, especially one like yourself that looks like he needs to learn how to use the preview button to think about what he's posting before opening his damn mouth. And while I'm at it, anyone with theme preferences as disgusting as the ones you've suggested would appear to have NO BURNING MAN spirit and is not someone I'd want to have on the same playa as myself.

Are you stupid? If I am this mad about the theme this year, what makes you think I would actually support one of those themes? You obviously missed my point. The FACT is this theme has made more people mad this year than any other theme in the history of burning man. And that you just can't argue with, because its right here in your face.

I don't know if that's a fact, but if it is then it may be one of the better themes. To me it seems catered toward main stream, like the green theme, but perhaps it will weed out some of the whiners we already have who feel they are entitled to something. Yay theme!

This is the best theme in the history of Burningman.

And when I get there Im gonna hang my American flag upside down from my camp. Then I will burn it in protest to this theme later in the week. Deal with it!

I think your plan of how to participate in the 2008 theme is a great idea.

It's steeped in protest, self-expression and irony.

Glad to see that you're going to buy the ticket. All we ask is that you wait till the later level and buy the expensive ticket if you can afford to. Also make sure you're a good lil capitalist and buy some shit to lug out there. Support the economy by spending. America depends on you to participate in a celebration of excess. Try flying as part of your trip to help be green and support the oil companies. Bring at least an 8 cyl. vehicle and burn as much shit as you can to offset the living green stuff the rest of the year.

The "American Trashing"

Post by Troy Van Berry » Thu Oct 04, 2007 9:50 am

Wow, what a bunch of narrow-mindedness. I'll bet your family is so proud. Afterall your grandparents, or whomever it was, never got off a boat with gleam in their eyes for the new beginings they were facing, right? All of us come from somewhere, so embrace your heritage in this theme. Nobody said it was "only" about America, did you even read Larry's comments. If the theme is so prevailent to your desicion to attend, then make some great art and make your own contribution to challenge the perceptions of others(or your own). How about all the burners from othe countries who will create art based upon their non-american patriotism. Don't you want to experience that? The theme is a suggestion, I suggest you you come up with something to "blow some minds"!
The art is in the details

Whatever stunt it takes to get people passionately involved in something that was in danger of dying of ennui.
