Over 95% of hiccups are caused by a trapped air pocket in your stomach
Inhaling air deeply into your tummy until it merges with said trapped pocket
and then stomach burping the whole thing back up is the only surefire method to get rid of hiccups.
You can try to drink from the wrong side of the glass or upside down if you like, but this will only make you wet.

We have an obligation to make space for everyone, we have no obligation to make that space pleasant.

I've had to deal with hiccups my entire life. I hiccupped in the womb.
My sister-in-law finally gave me the best solution:
anticipate them.
That's right, you get one hiccup, then you put your attention to predicting when the next one is coming. The next one never comes.
This is coming from someone who gets the hiccups at least 2x daily.
mayavin's post above was closest.

Okay, so ten out of ten for style, but minus several million for good thinking, yeah?

I saw my info back when The Learning Channel first came to the scene.
I was plagued with hiccups often, often it would incapacitate me.
Following those instructions has proven 100% effective for me.
I don't even make it to the third hiccup now, thanks TLC.
Drinking beer quickly will also expand and release the air pocket, for
those who prefer to not inhale air.

learned "my" method at nuke school, and your method might inadvertantly accomplish my method, though one of ours has a bogus framework of understandingI saw my info back when The Learning Channel first came to the scene.
