Texas Burner looking to go back with a group...

Post by wildgunman » Fri Jun 20, 2008 2:46 pm

I went to Burning Man back in 2002 and 2003 and had a blast. I liked it so much in '02, I convinced my folks to come the second time around. I'm a pretty good salesman

I live in Austin, and I'm a Ph.D. grad student in finance here at UT. I've been unable to go back until now. I was hoping to meet some like minded people in the Austin area to talk about all things Burning Man as well as on the boards.

A quick introduction to myself:
I'm a kind of regular, professional type guy, with a serious oddball streak and a serious passion for doing off-kilter stuff. I really like building things: treehouses, platforms, catapults, camping superstructures, beds, whatever. I also like showing off stuff and organizing events. I'm not really the classic Austin hippy, by the way. The "Inside the Loop" Houston scene (where I used to live) is more my style. I relate more to those professional types who work suit-and-tie engineering jobs, and just happen to drag two front-wheel drive cars out into a field in order to cut them in half, weld the front ends together to be able to drive it in both directions, and then go back to the suit-and-tie.

Anyhow, I'm a bit late in getting around to it (I didn't know if I was going to have the week open), but I want to meet some people who might be interested in forming a group to build an installation of some kind, or to just to talk about it.

Thats-a bout it, I guess. Signing off.

Question: Have you been to the Austin burn? (Flipside)

I can't get away from work long enough for the big burn in NV, but I might be able to make it to Austin next year.

What can you tell me about it?

My love and I are making the trek for the first time this year. I'm also an "inner-looper" from Houston, and just moved to ATX less than 3 months ago. We're looking for 2 people who need rides there and possibly back that don't mind chipping in for gas. We have a 91 isuzu trooper, with lots of space (but half ass gas mileage). I estimated $100-$125 per person each way. We're leaving on the 23rd as well, and plan on doing a straight drive to the playa. We'll most likely leave on the 2nd (if not the 1st) We're most certainly hippies, but also very easy-going and open to whatever can occur... Don't hesitate to contact me if you need to hop in, or if you're attempting to caravan out that direction!
