corporations like time/warner and GE are "owned" by thousands of people, not a few. and there are thousands of editors and journalists... the corporate heads couldn''t possibly fire them all. they are too busy running the business, and besides, who would write the news? you'd have trouble convincing me that the boards of these media companies are republican anyhow. there are a great many corporate fat cats who are democrats...especially in media.gyre wrote:You're so right.
An owner can't influence the coverage and editorial content of his employees because he isn't allowed to fire them and replace them with someone else.
Can't you figure out this anomaly about journalists?
It is precisely because they know what is going on, that they can't support republicans.
as for journalists being democrat because they see what's going on ... that's a very simplistic argument. i rarely get through an article without having a great many questions about the conclusions reached by the journalist, many of which seem to me to be based on "conventional wisdom," polls, gross generalities, or unproven hypotheses. my own take is that journalism is a creative occupation, and creative people tend to be more liberal. unfortunately, i got stuck in an unhappy place between my massively educated conservative family and very well educated liberal creative friends. i am so used to being attacked by both sides for one reason or another that i'm forced to look at both sides and reach conclusions accordingly. i know few who bother. but i learn from both.
