Check this little doozy out....It figures, they were part of Entheon Village...that says a lot right there.....
god bless our culture and its infinitely creative ways to find a way to make a buck :)

BM Kitchen Info
The 24 Hour Kitchen is a blend of vegan and raw food chefs that have a passion for cooking on the playa. We hope to one day reach the goal of feeding every playa citizen a warm hearty meal. Last year we participated in the Entheon Village kitchen and prepared over 600 meals a day. This year we are well prepared to cook for up to 1000 a day since we have invested in some better kitchen gear. We will be on the playa early again this year for the Feed the Artists program so stop on by and eat well while building in the dust.....
(oh and pay them $221 for the food please)....

Yep. I would love to have a peek at their books, and see what sort of prophet they're making.

Food for the masses they do check out.
A "make your own" pizza place a few years ago was shut down by Monday. 1) Raw food, and 2) handled by the unwashed..

On Interdependence, Evolution WAS: SNARK CENTRAL
Dear all;
I'm not going to the playa this year but I am part of the Village Krishna Camp is part of and I think the attitudes on these posts have sickened me.
Having camped with Krishna Camp in prior years (when they ran the kitchen in our camp).. I can tell you this.. They were model burners. They came early, they worked their assess off with smiles on their faces in insane conditions..they volunteered for build projects outside the kitchen, every night they fed people that were tripped out for whatever reason for free and offered impeccable hospitality..They stayed late for strike..and were THEE MOST HARDWORKING SELFLESS people I have had the opportunity to work with on the playa. They did not say.. oh dude.. I feel like going to party even though there is a windstorm on the way.. NO. They just ROCKED..consistently.
They love to cook..That is their sacred offering to the world. I don't like to cook. I like to make art. Aren’t people supposed to do what they love on the playa? This is what I hear.
At the end of last year, they had such a great time with feed the artists (which they are doing that again this year, because they LOVE to cook and liked cooking for people outside of camp as well as it helped them feel like a part of the larger burner community) they figured it would be fun to expand the kitchen and do even more of what they love. The idea was recognizing that some people are artists or performers and want to focus all their energy on doing just that.. and it was seen at least by KC as a way to make an offering to the burner community to allow more people to spend time doing what they love while they do what they love. We have friends doing everything from rangering to fire conclave to black rock radio that for whatever reason are not camping in our village..but still want to be part of our community. Hell we have a group in our village that wants to do a satellite camp somewhere else that is quiet. The intent was NEVER TO MAKE A PROFIT. No this is not commercialism.
We are a full village with multiple theme camps, many art installations, public temples, workshops, music, etc. All of our camps have been working their ass off all year to make offerings to the burner community. No one is getting paid for squat. We’re all, as we are every year, up to our eyeballs in personal debt, to make sure we can afford the truck, the art projects, the village storage, fixing the art car, the village storage, etc. It’s fucking hard ass mutha fucka thankless work.. and we do it all because we love it because we are nutcases and we love this crazy festival of crazy peeps.
Now I feel like its all gotten crazy and been turned into something it never was by people that didn't even bother to ask a question. The Krishnas, a people whose religion is grounded in love and compassion and sacred service, have been threatened numerous times and our village has been threatened all because of a misperception of intent.
We've all worked our asses of all year long to make a good village and produce an excellent series of sacred spaces (across multiple spiritual traditions and backgrounds including 'science') exploring evolution and it's really disheartening to watch our community being attacked when there are much better questions and things to be in arms about..
I for one can talk for miles about the ratio of participant vs. spectator these days.. (notice: I am not going to burning man this year)
The Threats are just over the top!!! Must we be frightened for our lives and the sanctity of our sacred space after we’ve spent thousands of hours making art for burning man ? It’s ridiculous. Don't attack the people slaving away all year to foster community.
After talking about this within the village, Krishna Camp is fine returning to being an in-village only kitchen. It's less work for them and they were primarily just wanting to foster more community and support more people on the playa.. since that doesn't seem to be well-received.. They just want to go back to cooking for the little community we have , which they’ve been doing for awhile, which is fine.
I ask that all of you , especially the ones that have threatened our village , to take some time to reflect on why your first impulse was violence instead of communication ; why you chose snark over seeking perspective.
I live in SF and I'm happy to talk to you on the phone or even see you in person.I’ve been a burner since 1998. No, I am not a Krishna, but I’m proud to know them and be friends with them.
I feel like I was just catapaulted into 6th grade. This is not EVOLUTION folks.

Threats
Threats have been made privately via the contact page.
The meat scrap comment was funny.. I admit. ; ) Yes, I eat meat.. :P
KC has taken down the website to update to reflect the changes that are being made since its clear their idea of offering food to people outside our village was not well received. Not every good intention has a good reception.
They've been coming to burning man for years and been great neighbors. It was a neat idea in the beginning fostering interdependence and greater community.. but they've realized now that it can also send the wrong message. so..
lesson learned.
I'm still available to talk with anyone. Just message me and I will give you a call or get together with you for coffee if you are local..

Re: Threats
Veleda, there is another, important lesson to learn: ePlaya does NOT represent the Burning Man community. It's just a bulletin board for folks, and the population is skewed toward irreverent banter, sometimes bordering on rude and offensive....but it would be a minor travesty for you or any other person to think that the vibe felt on an internet forum is in any way indicative of the reception one would receive out on the playa.veleda wrote:lesson learned.
Having said that, I do not prefer the approach taken by some mega camps and would not consider camping with one because I dig the self-reliance thing. But, I confess, mega camps sometimes bring amazing art or dance spaces to the playa for all of us to enjoy.
You guys should do your own thing and judge whether it is appreciated by how folks react to you on the playa...not on the internet.

Teo is wise.
The eplaya is a small, tiny percent of burners. I may not like your idea, and may express an opinion, but that doesn't mean you should alter your plans. Unless you're blowing up kittens.
I wouldn't choose to do a mega-camp or paid meals, but that doesn't make me the arbitrator of what goes on in your camp.

They are not collecting money to feed members of their camp. They are collecting money to feed the general population of black rock city. I believe that the response they are getting is due to the fact that it seems to violate more than one of the ideas that this event was built upon.C.f.M. wrote:All of the theme camps I'm considering cost money, and covers food (and other amentities).
What's different about this one?
(aside from the stench of patchouli and lack of pork)
(insert joke about how I will be bringing my own porking)
