Pay Money, Get Fed, Have Zero Commuity or Self Sufficieny!
I'll call BS on the cost issue.
The one theme camp I am familiar iwth provides a lot more service in terms of food and infrastructure for a lot less money than what was described at the top of this thread.
I am very suspicious of 'costs' that lack any sort of verifiable backup. I am doubly suspicious when the only response is 'how could anyone question US?'.
'no profit' is a slippery subject. Does the fee simply cover my food? Does it also cover the organizer's food? Does it cover transportation? Does it cover the organizer's ticket? Am I paying for someone's car and fuel to get to BM? Just about anything might end up under the 'no profit' label.
Or more likely, is this quasi religous organization using funds derived from BM to pay for other 'charitable' work off playa? Hence being 'no profit'?
In any case $200+ is way high for raw/vegan meals.

Re: On Interdependence, Evolution WAS: SNARK CENTRAL
yes, that is called an "economy"....you know where people who like to be fireman protect us from fires and people who like to farm do the farming and then we trade these goods and services using an exchange medium called "money" its fascinating! Itsn't it great that we can all do what we LOVE and exchange it for good and services with other people who do what they LOVE.....We all get to create our own sacred offering and exchange it for money and then exchange that for others' sacred offerings. I do it every day here in San Francisco.... its wonderful....
veleda wrote:Dear all;
They love to cook..That is their sacred offering to the world. I don't like to cook. I like to make art. Aren’t people supposed to do what they love on the playa? This is what I hear.
At the end of last year, they had such a great time with feed the artists (which they are doing that again this year, because they LOVE to cook and liked cooking for people outside of camp as well as it helped them feel like a part of the larger burner community) they figured it would be fun to expand the kitchen and do even more of what they love. The idea was recognizing that some people are artists or performers and want to focus all their energy on doing just that.. and it was seen at least by KC as a way to make an offering to the burner community to allow more people to spend time doing what they love while they do what they love. We have friends doing everything from rangering to fire conclave to black rock radio that for whatever reason are not camping in our village..but still want to be part of our community. Hell we have a group in our village that wants to do a satellite camp somewhere else that is quiet. The intent was NEVER TO MAKE A PROFIT. No this is not commercialism.

I think the information or lack of it is the reason for any negative reaction.
There is no reason for threats however any of this is seen.
The question of costs/ price is a fair one and you can expect anyone to ask it.
Someone at Entheon told me they were paying $500 for tent camping space and participation, which supports the entire setup.
I can't recall if that included food, but they told me the food was very good.
At the high end of Entheon, fees and perks were higher.
Of course, at the high end, they flash freeze you for rest periods to stop aging.
That's what all the reefer trucks are for.

How is buying groceries (with money) more self-sufficient than paying someone to set me up with food. As long as I have made arrangements to feed myself it is no one else's business.
That said, if any of the rumored millionaires should stumble upon this thread please contact me about getting your own totally awesome camp, art, and or art car with gourmet catered meals and air conditioning built by a pack of paid flunkies. It's too late for 2009, but 2010 is available.
I'm sorry, I meant to say that if anyone wants to 'sponsor' some awesome stuff we will let you camp with us.

I am only half joking. Do you have an idea or do you want a complete proposal?alt12 wrote:oooh, how much for an art-car? I'm good for it....
Hell, I ought to work up a proposal just so I know how much I need to do it for myself. If you're even half serious we could probably come up with something for 2010.
Fishy, Nope... But this is really not the Entheon Village thread.. I was hoping that someone from the village would like to explain a few things. I have brought this up a few time here and there, but nobody wants to engage..theCryptofishist wrote:Did we ever resolve the red on the moop map issue?
Beside's the MOOP the land grab was done on such a pre-planned scale that the BMORG just about gave up.. The Placers kept kicking them out all day. The Village stage in other open area and before dark moved in with camp leaders staging and placing cars and camps..
I guess this is thread drift...

If we weren't 2,000 miles apart that might do it.

Didn't see the Kitchen, but did see a bunch of mOOp..
So camp-photon, you have read my comments and have no comment??
Did you do you mOOp pick up for 2 hours?? Did you encourage your camp-mate to do mOOp patrol?
do tell...

Yep. Ate there for the artist dinner before the event opened. It was OK. Nothing special. I could not survive 3 weeks out there on rabbit food.camp-photon wrote:Did any of the haters see the kitchen and the food they were serving over at Enthion? It was worth $200.
We ate a lot better at our camp and it was much less than $25/day per person. Didn't stop us from building our project either. It actually was really fun and community building to have everyone in the camp participate.
Heck, we had half the commissary coming over for the ribeye and homebrew.
But then again, tourism seems to be the wave of the future for BM. Doesn't mean we can't go down fighting, screaming and hating.
I kinda like the sound of that.

Okay. I don't want any of my money going to the Krishnas. If that makes me a "hater" (gawd, I love that term, what does it mean again? "you're mean cause you don't like what I like--and you couldn't have a legitimate beef with anything I do"), then I am a hater.camp-photon wrote:Did any of the haters see the kitchen and the food they were serving over at Enthion? I hate the hating haters.
And the term "Cult" has lost some of its zing in the last decade or two, but the Krishnas really do qualify. Snappy dressers, though! I know two people who have already forked over (ha!) their cash, so I will definitely be stopping by to check it out.

Of course, the Krishnas are also famous for feeding people for a few days, not enough protein, too much starch, softening you up for recruitment. And the burn is a very good place to be short on sleep. It could be a real sweet thing for them, when you think about it.

I didn't see the food. I only saw the trash and the hundreds of bikes they parked in front of their neighbors art. And heard their loud sound system all night long.
