places to park cars when groups meet up

Post by xhoosier » Wed Aug 19, 2009 2:24 pm

I am meeting up with a couple of other people and will drive in one truck into BM. Where can we park cars during the days we are in BM? Any place in Fernley to leave a car for several days. We will pay for a space just so we don't need to park them in reno or so other farther place. Anyone have info on places to leave cars??

thanks,
M

why don't you just drive all of the cars into BM? It would be safer, and less hassle...there is plenty of space to park if you don't mind shuttling drivers...

A few of us are from Idaho, california, colorado, etc and if we could all meet up in Fernley we would save some gas and it didn’t seem useful to take up space at BM. Not to mention the possible extra dust getting into the cars. Ecology man :)

There's LOTS of space at BMan. You could put your extra cars out at an outer ring if you wanted to keep from cluttering your camp.

I disagree with bringing an unnecessary car to BM. If you don't need it don't bring it. It gets pretty crowded towards the end of the week. and it take up space someone could use to camp.

I think the real answer is, unless you know someone, there isn't a place to park your car for a week. You might check with some businesses in Fernley on the way in.
It's going to be alright.

The real answer is: find extra riders from Idaho, California, etc to take up the extra room in said vehicles the whole way. There are plenty of people who need that space. If you don't want to bring your car onto the playa, find a ride instead of a rider.

Trying to coordinate driving times to all arrive in Fernley at the same time will be next to impossible which means many of you will wind up spending the better part of a day sitting by your cars in the middle of freakin nowhere, NV.

If you're bent on leaving your cars in Ferntucky, you might want to try the Flying J truckstop. No guarantees that your car won't be on blocks when you get back, but I do know that truck stops are pretty cool about leaving your cars, at least the Alamo in Sparks is. Mr. Lost drove truck (semi) for years and left his pickup parked at the Alamo for weeks at a time and never had a problem. I'm not sure how they would be during Burning Man though. I'd definately ask before doing it.

You're driving from Idaho or Colorado and think the few miles from Fernley is too far?
Surely you're clever enough to figure it out for yourself.

There's nothing wrong with the idea. Fewer cars at BM means less congestion, especially on exit. Also, if you're driving your fancy BMW or Mercedes, maybe you don't want it getting all dusty...

Consider long-term parking at the Reno airport.

At any rate, leaving cars in Ferntucky or Girlack would not be the safe or neaighborly thing to do.
