Mountaintop mines in the states where the practice is most used - West Virginia, Virginia, Kentucky and Tennessee - produce approximately 130 million tons of coal each year and employ about 14,000 people.
I think West Virginia alone used to have somewhere around 150,000 jobs from coal. That's when it was primarily deep mined.

A return to deep mining seems a good idea to me, but it costs more and means less profits for the higher ups in the companies.

We may not have any stray beer; I think alcohol control took it all off to the pound.

HELP - MIA

Post by howjon2001 » Tue Oct 20, 2009 9:15 am

HELP

I am trying to help a friend's parents. Their son was due back home frrom the Black Rock cleanup and has not materialized yet.

They specifically asked for the BM office phone number (in Gerlach?) but I wonder if there is a better way to call DPW?

Xingu is made from Amazon river water. True fact.

I know that they don't answer at 415 Toflame, but leave a message there anyway.
I'm sure there are emails on the main site--volunteers(at)burningman(dot)com.

Thanks Cryptofish - they have apparently contacted someone in Gerlach so we are off the case now. I hope he's having fun?

I hope so, too.

I also hope the llc isn't so tangled up in it's reality that it didn't not notify family if something untoward happened.

Installed a copper hood in a kitchen tonight. It was a booger of a job, but now its in and all is well. More work in the queue as well. Can't complain. Lots of projects around the farm and house to keep busy with as well.

Life ok with you?

Hi LCN; no apologies ever needed - we're here when we are and when we're not people can talk about us!javascript:emoticon(':D')

Not too bad here. The fall colours have been wonderful. We had a dusting of snow last week.

I was a little slow off the mark for about a week now but I'm bouncing back. The six month anniversary of Caleb's death snuck up on me last Friday and I felt like I walked into a brick wall. Grief cannot be understood or its impact entirely anticipated.

How about you and yours? Did you find another cat to keep you and your computer company?

*Dog races thru and does a run by licking on everyone in the place!*

Which is... nobody... hmm. Well I guess I'll just flop here by the fire... hmm needs a bit of stoking.

There. Now let me add a little playa dust to the rug... There that's better! Time for a little nap...........
A plan is what you vary from.

Destiny Lounge 3D will be at Bradbury and 3:15 this year as a part of the 404: Village Not Found group of camps! Come see us!

I have to think you'll be one to have entirely too much fun on a trip like that. Shake up what others think of as the norm, will ya?

And will do on the doggy scratch...

Think you'll make it to the desert in 2010?

Very good. Not only did you set the billboard code so that it shows the smily, you also managed to utterly confuse me with the juxtiposition of the text and the link.

Note: this is not snark, or hostility. It's really hard for me to figure out what to say sometimes, especially when there isn't much material to work from. I'm not very rah-rah and I don't have the gift of putting strangers at their ease. I'm sort of saying what I think in a very direct way here, nonetheless, I don't take it too seriously.
