Ouch, ouch, ouch. Any idea who did it?
Back to the "why do we kill people to show people that killing people is bad?" question, isn't it
forgive me for taking a page out of arnie's book
unfortunately I feel
constrained at work by the
knowledge that it's possible to spy on me

One shooter dead, two in custody. They were in uniform, but no one has confirmed if they were actually soldiers.
Fuck, 12 dead and 31 wounded. Solider processing facility, so the dead are likely new recruits, troops shipping in or out from the Middle Eat, or soldiers separating from the service, or staff. So sad.

I think that it's pretty much a given.Deb Prothero wrote: I wonder if the person or persons were under some mental stress?
Of course, I can guess where you might be going with that.

Fuck. The shooter was a major in the Army, a mental health provider, so possibly a psychologist or psychiatrist. Malik Hasan... that he is either of Middle Eastern descent or a recent convert to Islam makes this all the more complicated. I hope he is not married with a family, this is going to be very hard on them. Fuck.
They're blathering about how he came to have a firearm. Phsshaw. It's Texas, the cattle are armed.

Here's what HuffPo has on the shooter.
WASHINGTON — Military officials say the suspected shooter at Fort Hood was a psychiatrist at Walter Reed Army Medical Center for six years before being transferred to the Texas base in July.
The officials had access to Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan's military record. They said he received a poor performance evaluation while at Walter Reed.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because military records are confidential.
The Virginia-born soldier was single with no children. He was 39 years old.
He is a graduate of Virginia Tech University, where he was a member of the ROTC and earned a bachelor's degree in biochemistry in 1997. He received his medical degree from the military's Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md., in 2001. At Walter Reed, he did his internship, residency and a fellowship.
(This version CORRECTS the suspect's name to Nidal Malik Hasan, not Malik Nadal Hasan.)
Fuck, a psychiatrist??? This just doesn't make any sense.

Moving to Texas makes people into violent gunmen? What could make more sense, Deb? Especially, if it's being forced to move to Texas.
(I know, I know, Captain Smashy and Dr. Jet Sinister are going to bleedin' kill me.)

One of my friends is a psychiatrist at Walter Reed and knew him. She said he was quiet and reserved.
Stuff has come out that brass knew he had fucking problems...but you can't really fire someone if they haven't done anything wrong.
Unless of course you work in NY state where we have "at will" employment and we lay off people for no fucking reason (except the important reason that we're losing money...)

Hawaii, free, this is fucking happy news!AntiM wrote:Fuck, seriously, one free room in Kona, Hawaii for one week, sleeps two, with kitchen privileges and a private bath. Free, although I am open to donations toward the maintenance fees if you feel moved to contribute. You just have to get your ass there. And try not to be a smoker, because I have asthma and you can't smoke in the room anyway. And don't hog the living room or drink Larry's beer. Pick up after yourself outside your room. Pretty much the same as our playa camp rules, LOL. We might even be cajoled into an airport pick up and drop off if you don't want to rent your own car.
PM me for details. Really, Hawaii in January?

Yeah, like listen to them say they don't want to go to Iraq for months on end and even have that statement on their personnel file. Then send them to Iraq anyway with a nice stopover in Texas just to boil their blood first. Fucking Christ Almighty. The army obviously had a death wish for this guy but what they underestimated was that he'd take some of them with 'im.theCryptofishist wrote:They always say that.Da Mule wrote:One of my friends is a psychiatrist at Walter Reed and knew him.
