We don't have any plans for an eplaya camp...Spanky, AG & I all work for some portion of the event and camp with our teams.
But I do look forward to hearing of any on-playa eplaya parties. Just let me know when & where, and I'll be there with bells on. Or maybe buzzers. Who knows.
Better yet, if someone plans one, I'll make sure we get it in the Playa calendar online, so it can make it into the What Where When guide.

Let's ask for a commitee to organize a group that will be responsible for picking the supervisors that pull people from their unit who will get together weekly to try and organize the core commitee that will organize the group whose job it is to take the names of the future leaders who decide who should sit down and hash it out with the people from the other side who don't think they can make the commitment at this time but who, on the other hand, might have some friends who can get together on the internet, or at least in some chat room in Unlan Bator, and see if it is at all workable...
or not...

For the last time......
I did not say I was not going to the event anymore.
I'm sure there are many that would like very much that I not attend, But I never said that I would not go back to the event.
As for volunteering for an eplaya camp, I'm all for it.

Because out of experience so far, I think if I put a lot of effort to create the camp myself either no one will come or participate. If there were to be an Eplaya camp I would want it to be successful. Not unsuccessful on the account of me.Ivy wrote:As my dad always says:

I hate to say this and I mean no ill will but I have been expecting nothing from certain areas and have gotten nothing.Ivy wrote:How about sticking to the credo of "no expectations" regarding this whole thing?
I'm someone that likes to do something and do many things, but really can’t stand when I'm left to do all, by my self. Not all the time, sometimes things turn out better because I am the one that does it alone. But with Burningman I enjoy collaborations. I enjoy input from burners. I enjoy their creativity. (For the most part.)
I think it would be pretty stupid of me to do an eplaya camp by myself. I understand there are people that are dedicated to their own commitments; I’m not speaking to that. I just wanted to know if their was anybody interested in building an eplaya camp.

From the way you've been phrasing it, it has not sounded like you've been interested in seeking out collaborators to start an eplaya camp with. Your messages come across more like "is anyone [else] starting an eplaya camp." They give the impression that you think it's a great idea but you want someone else to do the work. Perhaps that is not your intention, but I think that's how a lot of peole are interpreting it as--something to think about.
I was also referring to your admant desire to be "successful" with the no expectations thing--what constitutes success? A big outrageous project? Flaming cannons? Giving away PB&J? What would a successful eplaya camp be?
Personally, I would imagine that a successful eplaya camp would be a place where eplayan who aren't camping elsewhere already and might be interested in camping with other eplayans could stake their claim. Nothingmore, nothing less. If you have 2 people, it's a success. Kep the expectations low. Keep the complexity to a minimum and you're almost guranteed to be successful.

If I were going to build an eplaya camp with 2 people I might as well just build my own camp for myself. I think you have missed the point.
Already this has been more trouble than it has been worth.
forget I asked.
thanks anyway.

I have not decided where I will camp this year, unless I am mistaken I have several options, though tonight I am leaning towards Hushville and vistiting around.
In any case, if there is an eplaya camp or eplaya meet and greet I will show up (playa time) and bring a large bottle of booze and maybe some ice. The only activity that I am committed to at this point is backing up a friend at a Gigsville function that, I think, happens on Monday or Tuesday.
I really would like to meet all you weirdos. Make suggestions on the booze, otherwise I might bring something nasty just to see who drinks it..

Quick stupid question time. Is Hushville actually quiet? Or are they on the Esplanade next to loud camps? Where can I get info about them?
I was planning on camping alone out on the fringes to escape the noise factor, but if Hushville is actually a fairly quiet camp- maybe that would be an option.

No one asid anything about "buliding" anything. A camp doesn't mean you provide everything for other people. I am asking you what is your definition of making this camp sucessful. Clearly, to you, for a camp to be successful you have to "build" something. What is it that you need to build? A shower? A kitchen? A big blinking sculpture? What?If I were going to build an eplaya camp with 2 people I might as well just build my own camp for myself. I think you have missed the point.
For the last two years I participated in (and helped "build") one of the largest and most successful camps on the Playa: The Solo Collective. It accomplished everything it set out to do: a place for people--mainly people who coimmunicated online year-round--to camp. That's it. No communal kitchen. No communal showers. No big blinky sculptures, unless someone happened happened to be working on one of their own.
I don't uncerstand where this grandiose shceme of sucess and this wole bearing the brunt of the load stems from, i really don't. But I'm sure I'm just missing the point. Obviously for a camp to be sucessful, it must have 42, 000,000 people, lots of fire cannons and 7 storey tall blinky sculptures, and someone (solitary) person to build the ebtire infrastructure by himself.
Whatever happened to sucess being equivalent to acieveing one's goals? Sheesh.
IMO, it's YOU that's missed the point.

Burner... IF you're doing an eplaya camp (I know, I know... I read your last entry) count me in... although I don't see where there could be just one theme to the camp... unless it would be bashing and flaming others that don't agree with us... which could be fun.
Another good idea would be "Camp Tourette's" where anytime, day or night, you could hear extreme examples of verbal abuse projected over a bull horn... Maybe out near the trash fence... or trash talkin' fence... whatever
But, IF ePlaya Camp comes together, count me and my son in. If 'newbies' are allowed, that is... there are some who may want to make it exclusive and only allow those who 'get it'...

It sounds to me like an e-playa party/meet&greet instead of a camp would be a more workable deal. Let's do that! We could meet up at a predetermined place/general time, perhaps use my boat as a party platform/landmark since everyone knows what it looks like and not everyone will recognize each other in person.
Did I ever mention that there's a blender on the boat?

Hushville is near the center of things but far enough from the really noisy camps that it is kinda quite. In '02 it was next to Kidsville and 200 to 300 meters from the cafe. It was developed by the Petermans, and you can find more information here: http://www.playachicken.com/hushville/.Quick stupid question time. Is Hushville actually quiet? Or are they on the Esplanade next to loud camps? Where can I get info about them?
I don't think it will be a problem for you but there are rules, no generators and no amp'ed music as well as 'leave no trace'', comment, there were people in '02 that left a mess and it was made clear that they were not welcome back. I will comment at this point that I got sick and tired of picking up wooden matches. I missed 03 but I understand that it was packed by Thurday and that pre-registation may be required.

Pre-registration will be required for Hushville MMIV, though the Peterman/Bundts have not yet begun that process. Sign up for the Hushville mailing list at Playachicken.Com to keep abreast (or even two) of developments. Hushville '03 filled up very quickly and was very full. I don't know how we did on our LNT since I had to leave sunday morning, but we did rather well as far as educating potential neighbors of the generators/amplified music rules. We were thoughtfully placed adjacent to the AEZ (Alternative Energy Zone) and Kidsville (both also quiet camps), so we for the most part enjoyed the peace and quiet for which I love Hushville. It's great to be in a zone where you can actually sleep if you wish to, and yet it's a very short ride to center cafe and the esplanade.

Back to the original thread... somewhere back there... I have realized that I am stuck on ePlaya.... I cannot work without it. When the corporate insanity gets to be too much (about every seven-and-a-half minutes around here) I cruise back into the ePlaya and I get to play with creative minds!!!
Ahhhhh..... Thanks.... almost as good as sex under the desk....

everclear, hummm. I will be visiting my parents in El Paso before Burning Man, now I've just got to bring a bottle of pureo. 99.9% pure ethel alcohol, at least I think it is, nobody ever died. Granted, the next day some of them wished they had.

Just out of curiosity, how does Hushville handle really loud snoring and/or someone who has full scale, loud arguments in their sleep?! It seems that if I am not doing one, I am doing the other....
Hmmm..., if I am going in 2005, I have how many weeks to lose enough weight to stop my snoring and, maybe, train myself not to talk in my sleep...?
P.S.: Oh great! Now I am addicted to ePlaya!
