It seems that our current "anti-war" president has sent more troops to war than Bush ever did. http://www.rense.com/general88/obbd.htm
It's costing a pretty penny too;
"the White House estimates that it spends one million dollars per soldier, per year in Afghanistan, "not including the added expense of training and maintaining a security force."
"There was public outcry when Bush drastically raised an already bloated military budget to record highs. But in comes the admired anti-war candidate Obama, in the middle of a severe economic crisis, and what happens? Obama drastically increased Bush's record budget to $651 billion in 2009"
""In fiscal year 2008, the foreign military sales program sold $36 billion in weapons and defense articles, an increase of more than 50% over 2007. Sales for the first half of 2009 reached $27 billion, and could top out at $40 billion by the end of the year"
"But last year, the United States sold arms or military services to well over 100 nations.
the majority of U.S. arms sales to the developing world went to countries that our own State Department defined as undemocratic
regimes and/or major human rights abusers. And over two-thirds of the world's active conflicts involved weapons that had been supplied by the United States."
Hey, no problem. We made lots of bucks. What does it matter how many are killed?
"As former CIA Station Chief John Stockwell explained: "Enemies are necessary for the wheels of the US military machine to turn."
Pretty fucking disgusting.
"The war is not supposed to be winnable, it is supposed to be continuous all for the hierarchy of society The essential act of war is destruction, not necessarily of human lives, but of the products of human labor. War is a way of shattering to pieces, or pouring into the stratosphere, or sinking in the depths of the sea, materials which might otherwise be used to make the masses too comfortable" George Orwell
"
"KBR has been paid nearly $32 billion since 2001. In May, April Stephenson, director of the Defense Contract Audit Agency, testified that KBR was linked to 'the vast majority' of war-zone fraud cases and a majority of the $13 billion in 'questioned' or 'unsupported' costs."
That's my buddy Cheney.
"Goldman Sachs, the US bank which made £3.19bn profit in just three months, earned $588.82m for bank services and lent $250m to Alliant Techsystems and Textron"
Hey, hey,,, lots of money making cluster bombs.
When did that jerk say that we're going to be out of Iraq or was it Afghanistan,,, or maybe Pakistan.

I don't post things because I believe that they are the absolute truth. I post them because I believe that they should be considered.

Silent? Who? He is now fully responsible for both wars. I think his decision on Afghanistan was totally predictable--very Obama--try to make everybody happy. I'm still behind him, he's had just over a year in office now and there has been lots he's had to deal with--more than most presidents have thrown at them; and Washington is still Washington. So I'm just reserving judgment and keeping the faith--at least for the time being.ygmir wrote:interesting how silent those who have screamed in the past about the same things........
and, how, they have taken to rationalizing his actions and laying the blame......everywhere........but, not on him....

and, that's what I mean.......if it was a "right wing" president, IMHO, you'd be screaming at what a turd he is for what he's done......not reserving judgement at all..........or keeping any faith.......jkisha wrote:Silent? now, I do understand, supporting the guy you like.
I don't say I fault anyone for that, I was just noting, the "screamers" (not accusing you of being a "screamer".........
also noting that, those opposed to BHO, are not making nearly the noise about him, that, their counterparts would, given the same circumstances.
Just an observation........

The Afghans are not going to become a democratic republic. Look at Iran and Pakistan, those are the shining examples and Afghanistan are the backwater cousins of those places. We are not there to help put Afghan girls into school, or even to keep the Taliban out of politics. The Taliban ARE Afghan politics. That's how they roll there. The one thing they don't want is foreign interference.
We can build roads and do whatever public works projects that they will allow us to do. These will spoil them and help them accept our presence. We also need to point out to them that we are not there to make them change. That we, a foreign power, is just there to get another foreign power, Al Qaeda, out of their land.
That's my plan. It's not something I copy and pasted out of a rag, it's my own thoughts. Okay, some credit to Sun-tzu, fair enough.

"At one point in the debate, Obama's top economic advisers demanded the power to award future bailouts without even going to Congress for approval — and without providing taxpayers a single dime in equity on the deals."

"Power drunk" is the phrase used in this article.
"The Obama administration has now ordered a purging of Republicans from federal government civil service."
"Following orders they have issued new rules -- going back five years --wherein every employee hired, who previously had been a political appointee, will be terminated regardless of cause or poor performance."

Fuck Obama. Fuck the Democrats. And a special, most sincere FUCK YOU to Joe Lieberman who needs to be stripped of every goddamn motherfucking chairmanship, committee position, anything that can be stripped should be stripped. Anything he supports should be voted against categorically, just on cause. I hate that clueless motherfucker. I'll give my last fucking dollar to see that sorry ass fucker tossed out of office.
Karma's a bitch. Next election cycle karma's going to smack that motherfucker out the door and into political retirement where he fucking belongs.

*this passage is classic......hehehe~*
[quote]
Which brings us to the second answer to Mr. Hart’s question. If Democrats think they’ll be screwed next November because of unemployment, wait till Congress passes this healthcare monstrosity. Or doesn’t. At this point, either way they’re gonna get slammed for it, and rightly so.
If they don’t pass anything, they will be seen as unable to govern. This perception will be quite true because they will have failed to pass a major piece of legislation, despite having 60-40 majorities in both houses of Congress and control of the presidency. It doesn’t get much better than that for a governing party in the American system. But it will be true in an even more profound sense, because the whole priority structure of the Democratic agenda is wrong. Sure, people want healthcare reform right now (especially if it were to miraculously also have the virtue of being authentic healthcare reform), but what they really want, overwhelmingly, is jobs. This choice of priorities is the equivalent of, say, invading Iraq when you’ve been attacked by people in Afghanistan. Surely no president would be that stupid, right? Surely any political party would realize the costs of having priorities so divorced from those of the voters, right?
On the other hand, the Democrats and their hapless president are probably in worse shape if they actually pass this legislation. Especially now that it’s been stripped of nearly every real progressive reform imaginable, it has become an incredibly stupid bill, from the political perspective. It will force people who can’t afford it to spend a giant amount of money on lousy insurance, without any real choice to hold down costs, and it will fund this by hacking away at the Medicare budget. No wonder an insurance industry lobbyist broadcast an email last week declaring: “We WIN. Administered by private insurance companies. No government funding. No government insurance competitor.â€

Well Yg, as a liberal and two-time serviceman, I don't have a definition, as much as a point of view.ygmir wrote:isn't he the one who said we'd be out of these wars in short order, implying he's "anti-war"? and, being a liberal, is he not, by definition, supposed to be "anti-war"?
War is ugly, not fun. If you're going to fight a war, make sure it's for the right reasons, make sure you're on the right side, and fight smart, tactically and strategically. Don't waste your soldiers' lives and make a plan to finish and get the hell out of there as soon as possible.

I'll talk you through it.

Fairly nice part of Oahu. Now every yuppie in the world will want to develop property in Kailua, just to have some of Barack's manna. Driving prices out of the reach of working stiffs like you and me.
His visits usually help local businesses, however.

"Anytime the president of the United States comes to Hawaii it's a good thing. Anytime he comes on vacation it's even better. So, that worldwide exposure is second to none. It's priceless," Hawaii Tourism Authority President Mike McCartney said.
