The wall should read,

What compels you to stare, night after night, at all the glittering hokum that has been deliberately put together for you?

Looking for good quotes about television...

Post by C.f.M. » Tue Jan 19, 2010 11:26 am

I've narrowed it down to these, but don't completely love any of them.

It's to go on the wall, around my television.

I'm leaning towards the third one, but I'm not comfortable with the word "lover" on the walls of the house my parents frequent...

The second quote may be from a male point of view.

And what's wrong with "Vast Wasteland" in big, hostile letters?

I would paint "idiot box" with a big arrow pointing to the television.

How about "The Glass Teat" in big letters across the whole screen?

Sorry kids, the TV stays, and it will be for watching.

Right now it reads, "The things you identify with eventually identify you."

How about an arrow pointing to it that says "an Activia yogurt commercial will be right here in 3,2,1...." ?

Meh. The best thing about Dali is his titles. And you never know if your Dali print is a fake anyway.
Go for Ernst.

There's already three art pieces (by friends, I don't really go for prints, and one picture of fire staff spinning I took) - plus a lovely Liquid Sky poster - surrounding it. The quote is just the piece dey resistanz.

Sort of unrelated, but a good quote on television nonetheless:

“It is with a feeling of humbleness that I come to this moment of announcing the birth in this country of a new art so important in its implications that it is bound to affect all society. It is an art which shines like a torch of hope in a troubled world. It is a creative force which we must learn to utilize for the benefit of all mankind.â€

TV will never be a serious competitor for radio because people must sit and keep their eyes glued on a screen; the average American family hasn't time for it. ~Author Unknown, from New York Times, 1939

About Philo T. Farnsworth, inventor of the Farnsworth, which all of you are staring at right now.

Interviewer: The image dissector was used to send shots back from the moon to earth.
Elma Farnsworth: Right.
Interviewer: What did Phil think of that?
Elma Farnsworth: We were watching it, and, when Neil Armstrong landed on the moon, Phil turned to me and said, "Pem, this has made it all worthwhile." Before then, he wasn't too sure.

wish I could find the sounds bite of Mick Jagger's response about the impact of their being on American tv. His response was that they were just snippets wedged between advertising, "It's just us and then it's soap powder."
