DVD, the French guy lost me when he said that a map that would take many minutes to load on IPv4 would load instantly on IPv6 and that would be an incentive for adoption.

That is not true. IPv6 does not give you any additional bandwidth, in fact just the opposite. The huge packet headers now because you need 256 bits for addressing (128 for source + 128 for destination) instead of only 64 bits means that for a given number of IPv6 packets you actually have less data transferred.

The ONLY benefit for v6 at this point is the increased address space. If it was better technology, network operators would have pulled it into the mainstream 10 years ago. IPv4 address depletion is the only thing that is going to drive v6.

I have been telling this and posting this for years on this board. It is instantaneous.

I do not believe you have tried this.

It is instantaneous. That is, if you go IPV6 to IPV6. Tunnel it.
if you have comcast and a linksys router you can do it and see for yourself.
Comcast is straight IPV6 ready. Just update the the firmware on the linksys and you are set.

Trust me, I have been working with it now for 7 years. It has always had the same response if you have it hooked up right.
It's why youtube has gone with it starting last Thursday and Google started using it as it's standard since 2006.

Not quite, it is by far more secure due to a much improved ipsec and NAT.

But these things I have been saying for years and other scientists have known this and are proving it to this day.

It's neither here nor there tho. It's finally here to stay.

Folks will catch on kicking and screaming. It's the way it is.

We should really continue this topic here since I have more up to date info on this there.

DVD, it is what I do for a living. The bits move across the wire at the same speed regardless if the packets have an ipv4 header or an ipv6 header surrounding the data. The IP protocol doesn't change the transport layer.

I hope you were being sarcastic and don't actually believe that.

It is like saying that red Mustangs go faster than blue Mustangs.

And you are saying I dont do this for a living?

And you are saying one of the lead/senior engineers on the Google panel, the French guy you were just talking about, does not do this for a living?

Just because you have not been successful at it does not mean this not to be true.
Anyhoo, not going to discuss this here.

Just a correction on security:

Security

Security - Built in to IPv6; whereas IPSec is an add-on to IPv4.
Speed of IPv6

Also:

IPv6 will be faster in several ways. Physically, because IPv6 does not fragment the packets as IPv4 does. Logically, because IPv6 will be hierarchical, thus internet routers won't need such large routing tables. In addition, IPv6 headers have been redesigned to speed their path through a router and to create true 'end to end' capability, the result is more efficient network traffic on the internet backbone

Another difference between IPv4 and IPv6 is in the smarter allocation of IPv6 addresses. Rather than first come first served basis as seen with IPv4, IPv6 addresses will be leased on geographic region. Take Europe for example, RIPE (Réseaux IP Européens) has allocated the UK-BT IPv6 addresses beginning with 2001:0618

The first 10 minutes of MTV. Now you know the first music video ever played on MTV.

You know you are old if you remember when MTV actually played pretty much nothing but music.
