How to get 25-30 ties?
How to get 25-30 ties?
I have an idea for an outfit for the playa which is made entirely out of neckties. The only thing is finding white ties that are inexpensive is hard. I've checked out bulk stores and the thrift stores so far don't have any white or light colored ties that I might be able to bleach out.
Any suggestions or places to look?
Thanks!

Well I think I figured out how to do it, and I found someone to sew it (as it requires actual sewing knowledge to make). Its cheesier than one could imagine but I don't care. Its an outfit made of white ties and I will have a zippered pouch that I have on me that has fabric markers. Everyone that wants to can write on the ties. It's my personal yearbook that will go up onto a clear plastic bust at home and hang from my ceiling so you can see all sides of it. A black version will go with me to Flipside in 2011 and will reside on the other side of the room.
Ah, the ties that bind.
Told you it was cheesy.

It actually will have no skirt. It will fit like a bathing suit with gaps between the tie layers and ties going down one leg. The other leg will have no ties and I will have an elastic band that holds on the pouch of markers (zippered to keep them from become MOOP).
If I could find anything like it I would show you all a picture, but to be honest I never have. Doesn't mean it hasn't been done. Just that I haven't seen a picture for it.

thrift stores, garage sales, rummage sales.
I've have hundreds of vintage ties, all from somewhere cheap, all of which I wear with my piles of suits. I don't think I've paid more than $10 for any of them, and thats for the hand painted silk ones from the 40's. For the ones you want, I wouldn't expect to pay much more than a buck. I have a friend who's a tie artist who uses them by the container full:

You might want to make a minor modification however- unless you plan on buying new ties in exactly the color that you want, you might be better off going with a "pale" outfit for BurningMan and a "dark" outfit for Flipside.
Pales can be white, yellow, pink, light blues, beige....
Darks: black, grey, dark red & blues, purples....
You can even use patterned ties as long as the pattern is over-all dark or light.
This will give you more flexibility in your hunt and make the whole thing easier to gather.

FT, if you are afraid of metal getting warm, just dont make the open part betweeen legs and move it more front or back....and or use this

I mean the stripes on the shoe...sorry I have no idea how it is called in english...we call it dry zipper...but again you might to not want to have that right in the middle but moved to the front or back again...
