Looks like Kinetic Cab Company will be at 9:00 and Esplanade, with our "taxi stand" straight across Esplanade.

And yes, this is Kinetic Sculpture Racing Central for 2010.
No kidding. How hard would have been to add "Would you like to be on a published master list of theme camps? [ ] yes [ ] no"?dusty_nipples wrote:So let me get this straight... because I'm having a hard time grasping the lunacy of it. There will be no published master list of theme camp placement this year because a few camps requested placement, but then wanted to be kept private? So the needs of a select few camps supercede the needs of the entire community?
So now, we have no centralized resource to refer to until we actually arrive on the playa and get a list or something at the gate? Well that totally sucks. They should have asked up front if a camp wanted to be kept private, and just kept them off the master list. It's a no brainer.
There "should be" a map like http://earth.burningman.com/brc/2009/ this one put out before the burn starts. What people are bitching about is the PRIVATE master list that usually goes out to placed camps when they get their placement. This list invariably would be posted here within minutes of being sent out. I see it as the equivalent of the folks that tear down street signs.dusty_nipples wrote:So let me get this straight... because I'm having a hard time grasping the lunacy of it. Well, of course everything is an easy fix if you aren't the one that has to fix it. I think you missed my point that people are whining about something that was never available at this point ever anyway. IF a list of camps that want to be listed doesn't come out before the burn then fine, bitch away. But at this point people should chill.Token wrote:Oh please, the BORG has posted that super secret list in the same spot on their website forever. All that changes is the year digit on the URL.
Security through obscurity. No one is leaking their douche. Just predictability. Get of yer high hippie horse.
The solution is simple; remove the entries of camps requesting privacy. Real easy fix.
Lots of people have worked very hard to provide interactive maps and other cool stuff based on that list. It is a shame the BORG staff responsie for this was so myopic in their decision.
One can only hope the API at some point provides that data, preferably before the event starts.
Sounds like you must have good technical knowledge and strong motivation. Maybe you can look into volunteering to do this so it can get posted. I'm sure they would welcome the help.Token wrote:What in the world are you talking about? Its not easy, it's trivial.
As to your point, once you start publishing stuff on the web, its out there, public information and you have no control anymore how that gets used. The intent becomes irrelevant.
I'd much rather not ascribe to your chill agenda in exchange for the rich digital content that was fostered by those lists. The whole place is poorer for its absence.
Interactivity seems to be promoted on one hand and inhibited on the other.Risky wrote:I would think anonymity conflicts with several of The 10 Principles.

I am beginning to think that the Tuna Guys are a myth made up by rangers for their own amusement. I tried for days last year to find them to no avail. Tuna guys! If you are out there, tell me where you are, I'll bring you 20yo scotch!curiousgnate wrote:like someone said earlier in this thread, some camps have their own perfectly valid reasons for not wanting their address posted. Stiffy lube wants to keep it low key, tuna guys would totally be overrun, i still haven't had any of their tuna, but am always on the lookout. some of the other adult sex type camps want to keep things on the dl. etc.etc.etc. lost of these camps are inclusive and are loved by many on the playa.
One of them has shown up on this board.curiousgnate wrote:they have a facebook page. they do exist i have a friend that found them two years ago unfortunately i didn't meet him till last year :(
