why is the moderator taking sides?
Isnt the point of a moderator to be a neutrel arbitrator? Why is is she taking sides and selectivly deleting posts based on who she knows?

More like deleting posts by knowing the reputation and motivation of the people she has gotten to know doing the posting. I don't see anything wrong with that. If we are all speaking of the same "she", I must say from my personal experience here on eplaya that her calls are pretty much right on--and she has an open mind in hearing both sides of the story.

epic, you've been around for 6 years. Do you remember what this place turned into before we had mods? Threads got ugly.
The mods have consistently shown even-handedness, even if someone gets their hand slapped occasionally. The whole point is to make sure the TOS is followed, and the Bmorg has given them leeway in interpreting that because they showed an open mind in their posts before being asked if they would like to volunteer as mods.
Just like the playa, the eplaya works because people have volunteered to put up with the stress of maintaining it.

Excuse me?
Excuse me?
Would you rather be moderated by an outsider? By someone who didn't know what was going on? By some cold perfect entity without human connection to the issues?
She is a fair-minded person who bends over backwards to get it right. She must spend considerable time reading each and every post--no plonking for her, and you have no idea how my plonking makes this board easier for everyone; I couldn't do this, have no doubt. She's not perfect, but she is, from what I've seen, and I've seen a lot on this board, sincere, hard-working, thoughtful and dedicated. Modding this board can make grown men cry, don't forget that. It can make you bitter and decide to never come to the event again. It's a hideous job and we're damned lucky that 007, that Dork, that AntiM do it, daily and to the best of their ability. They don't get it right 100% of the time, but no one could. This isn't some sort of debate moderatership, it's a messy, imperfect, on-line community with all the nasty conflicts and petty power struggles that implies.
Not only doesn't she get paid, she doesn't get comped a ticket, nor a staff discount for it. I can see that some people might not like the way things work out. I've left boards where I just couldn't fit myself in. It's a big wide internet. I know facebook has burningman groups; I bet the Well does, too. You're going to have to decide if you want to fight the mods here, co-exist peacefully if uneasliy, or go elsewhere.

Say what you want, but I really don't appreciate you complaining about these moderators. I have not had the pleasure to meet many of them even on here, but I have sorta meet AntiM. She is an amazing resilent woman who volunteers here time to a community she loves and cares for. She does what is best even if it is not what is popular and stays neutral much more than I have seen most moderators on other boards be.
A quixk piece of advise: I won't pick on AntiM. She's out of your league.

i looked up epic's profile and read the intro to his posts.
all he does is complain. OK, so i didn't spend that much time looking through them .... but try it ....
he is a troll, IMHO. and not worth the energy we are spending on him.
what i am outraged about, however, is antim, mdmf007, and dork not getting a free ticket for all of their volunteer work! wtf????

mdmf007 gets one because he works the event for a volenteer department. dork may, I'm not sure. AntiM doesn't feel the need, I guess, at least she hasn't complained, plus many years she get's a discounted on because she's a safety for a fire troop.littleflower wrote: what i am outraged about, however, is antim, mdmf007, and dork not getting a free ticket for all of their volunteer work! wtf????

Like Token suggested I have the op plonked.
Has he complained that we are "sheeple" because we all disagree with him yet? That's his next move, I figure.

This is "epic" not DVD. It's been a long time since I read a DVD post, but they don't seem much the same to me, as best as I can remember.

DVD is more of a Narcissistic Egotist with a Cut and Paste fetish, whereas epic is more of an Aggressive Paranoid with a Potty Mouth and a bad case of Internet Tough-Guy Syndrome. I don't think they're the same.
Both plonked, either way.

I apologized to epic via private message. I apologized in the thread. I had discussed the post deletion with Dork and another moderator and we agreed it would be a good idea. It was not. I could not restore the posts as had neglected to put them in the Deleted Post thread. I fully and freely admit I fucked up, made an error in judgement, stepped over the line.
I was poised to delete Isotopia's post, but I went back and carefully reread the Community Guidelines.
Personal attacks are not welcome it says. But then, it says you must stand by your words as they "cannot be edited or deleted". Which is crap, mods can delete and edit. We just should not except in the case of spammers or board-wide disruption by someone having serious issues. So if there are personal attacks, my main role will be to tsk tsk at you and shake my virtual finger. I cannot ban users, but I can refer the worst offenders to the admins who have such abilities.
I notified Actiongirl of what was going on, she is my project manager. After taking a break for the weekend, except when I came back for Panda Shoes, I communicated with her again. I told her I had made the mistake and that I would apologize and let epic know he could post what he wanted as long as he wasn't selling anything.
For the record, I receive a gift ticket in 04 or 05??? When we had a mod get together at the sod pyramid, and all the mods had gift tickets that year. beyond Belief, LOL. Last year I did purchase performer tickets. Then I gifted out one of my tier one tickets, and sold the other below cost. There was a problem with the name on the performer ticket, so I was gifted two tickets in case Larry and I had a problem picking them up at the gate. When I got to the gate and found I had two, MyLarry took the extras into town when he went to pick up Fishy from Amtrak. He gave the two performer tickets to a burner with a cardboard sign who didn't have the money for full price gate tickets. The guy did give Larry some cash, but nothing what even a performer ticket would cost, and not because Larry asked. I wasn't there so I don't know how much. This year I purchase tier three for us. The performer ticket is a real pain in the ass, Larry works hard so we can have our fun.
If I do receive a gift ticket in the future, I will still have bought my own ticket in January, and that ticket would become a gift or be sold for below cost. For many years we could do gift tickets, and we did, I know we've spent over $1,000 in gift tickets over the years. This year was less feasible as I spent our spare cash on a trip (well, two).
I am here because I care. I admit when I screw up. I try to wield the Power of Nice. It does not always work. I try to be professional, but sometimes I swear, sometimes my humor goes awry, and sometimes I just want to tell people I think they are self-absorbed idiots in love with their clever remarks. I am an eplayan, I am fallible.
And hey, I've known DVD for years, he's a good guy, just a little annoying now and then. From a moderator standpoint, he's always cooperated with me.
epic is entitled to his opinions. I feel I've answered them. If he isn't happy, well, he can post what he likes. I don't need to worry about him in the long run.
